ive done the searching on lowering but i still have a few questions. i would like to drop my car down about 1-2 inches..either the 1.2 kit iver seen or the 1.7 kit. does it really matter what kind i get whether its intrax eibach apex or sprint springs off ebay? and will i have any problems with scraping the ground or getting a jack under the car and doing work on it? i dont want lowering to be morework than its worth and restrict were i can drive..

well dude, i hate to break the news to you but if you want to lower your car but you dont want it to restrict where you drive then you shouldnt lower your car. Either that or lower it an inch and call it good there. Definately stay far far away from a 2 inch drop.
Just remember you gotta pay to play and you pay by the inconviences of lowering but you play by how good it looks.
Also yeah theres some differences between eibach, intrax, sprint and apex springs. Apex are junk from what i hear. The other differences is the quality, and preformance. Intrax are medium preformers and drops big. Eibachs are great preformers, are good for autocross, etc, downside is they drop around 1 inch, another downside is they are lots of mulah. Sprint springs are nice springs, they arent really preformance, they are just the run of the mill spring but not junk. I have intrax springs they dropped my car about 2 inches, i love them they ride great. But if you dont want inconvience then dont get those. Theres streets i cant go down anymore.

I myself have an appointment on Tuesday to get my Eibachs and Monroe Reflex dampers installed. They offer a 1.6 inch drop in front, and 1.3-1.4 inch in the rear (believe me when I say that you won't be able to notice any difference).
The important thing to remember is that you HAVE to upgrade your cars damping abilities in proportion to the drop, otherwise the car will "pogo" over rough pavement. (By dampers I am referring to shocks and struts.)
Apex springs are of quite good quality - I had them for three years on my old Jetta, and they made it a very competitive autocross machine. However, the 60mm (2.25 inch) drop I had on the Jetta was severe, required rather expensive dampers, and was an absolute nightmare in winter weather.
Both Sprint and Springtech offer drop springs, but they don't offer an adequate increase in spring rate. They will offer ride qualities similar to stock and give the lowered look, but handling will not be as good as Eibach, Apex, or even Intrax can provide.
A 1.5 inch drop will probably suit most people's requirements without being too brutal for day-to-day driving. But forget about using the original struts and shocks.

I would listen to Jason, this dude autocrosses in his 98 ga, which is the only person I know who does. I consider him top's when it comes to 96-98 GA suspension.

If I were you I would put some kind of skid plate under your engine cradle that will prevent you from having any problems scrapping the bottom of your engine take it from me I had a 1989 g/a and it was about an half inch off the ground and i didntput a skid plate on it and i hit a pothole and busted my oil pan so make sure u do that.

the splash guards are also a helper from scraping the bottom of your car but i agree with jason and chris, need shocks and struts after lowering car, maybe not right away but as soon as you can.....Unless you have 18's,body kit,etc... there really shouldn't be any problems with scraping the car i don't think i mean yea 2 inches is a good drop but shouldn't have major conflicts with scrapping.

i think im gonna go for the sprint springs and use my same shocks struts. it was said that they are simialr to factory ride so i should be able to use factory dampers....how much should i be thinking to pay for install?

I have Eibach/KYB setup. After a week, front is dropped pretty damn good. Rear need to settle still.

I just ordered Eibach pro-low kit from PFYC.com and its a 1.25 in drop both front and rear. I shouldn't come across any scraping problems? And if so what could I do to prevent anything from happening. Thanks

You won't come across any scraping problems if you pay attention to where you are driving... Just don't pull up any steep driveways, or any place where theres a large change of slope.

(i.e. someplace looking like this-> road __/ )
One note on scraping problems... I once scraped my old Alero pulling into the 7-11, and that had stock springs (same as GA's I'm assuming)... you just gotta be careful where you go.

Yeah just be careful and take your time when pulling into driveways and parking lots.

I would recommend Intrax. Eibach springs rates and quality is good, but @ 1.2 inches it's just a tease of lowering.
If you still have the stock struts and shocks, it's time to change em when you change the springs.

You'll have to be contious of road conditions at all times, and be prepared to avoid potholes, entrance bumps, etc. To be honest, I haven't had any issues in 3 years having Intrax on my 95.
The jack will work fine on the sides, tho a professional floor jack no longer fits under the subframe. (so I have to jack from the side to change the oil) The spare tire is useless once you are lowered anyway... the GT ground FX will scrape.
I cant find a pic of my old GA but it was lowered with eibach springs, drop was next to nothing to notice but I like slammed cars anyway so dont take my word for it! Ride was very rough, it was just about the ruff as my current Jetta with coilovers slammed! Didnt handle as good as I thought it would, stock Maxima has better handling! Upper stress bar did nothing to help, so I'm guess you would need a rear sway to maximaze the suspension. Intrax offers better drop as the looks wise, dont know whow they handle since I never drove a car with them! I dont think you can lower the 96-98 GA's too much anyway, not enough play in the rear as the springs are small as it is!
But with Eibach kit you wont have any problems going anywhere, I drove that car in DC all the time, didnt even care about potholes! You do feel them tho cause of the stiffness! I would actually come in the community entrance at same speed as I always did before, its not low enough to scrap anything especially engine! Trust me that suspension has been on the car for over 4 years and the only time we sccraped was when parking too close to the curb. some metal niples under the front of the car would scrape but thats it!

My cousin's got a 99 GSR with a huge drop and my friends accord is like a 2-3 drop and they both ride like crap. I wanted to be noticable without killing my ride. As for shocks and struts I'm getting low on $$. LOL......Wish I could do it all but its not that eazy.
