So I'm looking into a retrofit this summer. Any reason why I shouldn't go for the black headlights that are on eBay verses the OEM ones? Would the black housings decrease the light output of HIDs enough to not make it worth getting them? Regardless I want a new set of headlights, so when I sell the car I can part out the retrofitted headlights to some lucky GAOC member.

When you say retrofit, do you mean just the HID bulbs in the standard bulb sockets? Or do you mean a true retrofit, including installing a projector lens w/ mask into the housing?

Projectors, ballasts, ignitors, all OEM.

Cutting a hole in the back of the new housing, sticking a TSX projector in there, custom shroud, the whole 9 yards.

with the projector black should be ok

It's still up in the air, the black housings are about $121 shipped and $103 shipped. Not much of a difference. Anyone know if there are any other differences besides the housing color between the two kinds?

With the projector lens setup, the housing will make no difference.

But... it's absolutely pointless to buy the black housings then. Open the stock housings and spray paint it black before installing the projector lenses.
