Hey.. :)
I really think you should upgrade to vBulletin 3.6.5+. The AJAX features are simply outstanding for both the users and administrators, as long as an array of new security features and plugins.
I can help install it if you want. I run an MMORPG gaming forum (http://www.egamingsupply.com/forum) myself powered by vBulletin.
The quick reply, smilies, and everything in vB 3.6.5+ is a lot better than the current running version on here IMO. I think a lot of users would like an appreciate the change. :)

Um, no. Been discussed before.
None of our custom vB hacks will work.

Custom hacks? You can probably find a cheap coder to transfer them to the new vB version.. =\

Cheap coder? Shawn and Kelly donate their time and money to make this site happen... hiring a coder is not feasible.
It ain't broke... don't fix it. In short, too much work for not much gain.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the new vB version anyway. In terms of how most members use this forum, 2.2.x is just fine. Forum version has nothing to do with actual content anyway.

Well if it's funding to make the upgrade, then funding I will generously provide to make it happen.
But if you insist on keeping the current version, I guess that's fine, but there are a lot of advantages to the newer one, including security. :)

Thanks, but we want to avoid donations and keep this site free. Far too many forums are going to a "premium membership" model that tends to segregate the members.
It has been experimented with here... but the data in our trader rating system, warning system, and timeslip database would be lost.
Also rec'd some advice from other webmasters to the contrary:
Vbullletin 3.6 has a lot of bugs still. The day that I upgraded to the new version I started getting hammered with tons of spammers so did majority of the other boards that made the switch and Jelsoft just pretty much told us all that the problem wasn't on their end but yet none of us had the problem before the upgrade.
I love the new features of 3.6 but I definitely think that you are better of waiting and running the version that you are now.

... personally, I like the older version, security issues aside ... just seems a great deal less cumbersome and whatnot ... for interest sake, we also run a newer vintage vB, www.g6ownersclub.com
