d*mn that looks amazing! I really like the paint job, very classy. The black headlights would look really good on there, what are your thoughts on them?
SikMindz
04-26-2007, 02:05 AM
Thought about it but nixed the idea as it would kill the orange accent line around the front fascia. It works as is so I'd rather not f with it. If anything I'd paint the inside bottom of the headlights black but that would be about it.
The car is at 125K now and is a daily driver that sees 50+ miles a day. Runs like a champ still but I'm pretty close to done with it.
Dave C
04-26-2007, 02:37 AM
I see... you're right about the orange accent, but I think the black bottoms on the inside would look cool.
Dave C
04-26-2007, 02:38 AM
quick Q... did you just paint the wheels black, or strip them of their finish first?
SikMindz

Powercoated gloss black.

I think the orange reflectors in the headlights actually make it look nice... The orange pinstripe runs right into the reflectors. I think it looks pretty sweet like that.

Wow, damn!!!
What body kit, spoiler, and exhaust (and mufflers) are you using!?
SikMindz
04-26-2007, 01:26 PM
To answer questions.
The spoiler is a custom one-off by the same company that did the kit for me. Neither is in production and the company isn't exactly the quickest or most efficient. Of the parts on my car the only piece from Cerious Performance is the hood.
The rims are powercoated gloss black Eagle 077 rims. Weren't my absolute first choice but I couldn't pass up on new rims with tires for 5 bills and only an extra $160 to powercoat.
The exhaust from the catback is 2.25" with a single in dual out Magnaflow muffler- tips are unknown and were just sitting around at the shop that I had install the exhaust back in 2000.
Dave, you cheater. You were the one that was supposed to keep up with me and you went and just bought 2 extra cylinders. No fair!

Probably have been asked before but what about tinting the tails?? It would flow pretty good with the black that you have going on right in front of them.
Never noticed the wheels before and they look pretty damn good.

The bases are an obvious giveaway. That was originally on something red, wasn't it?
SikMindz
04-26-2007, 03:04 PM
I'm assuming you're talking about the muffler and not the exhaust pipes. The muffler is at a slant like this \ for it to fit in that space. Still tight as a drum under there...we don't have nasty winters and salt business out this way! lol

04-26-2007, 03:40 PM
Do you know how much weight the car dropped?
SikMindz
04-26-2007, 03:42 PM
Beats me. Haven't had the time to weigh it, know where I would go to do such a thing and it really doesn't concern me. IMO I don't think it's anything drastic. I didn't buy the parts for weight reduction anyhow...hell, I didn't buy the parts period. lol Free parts FTW!
On a serious note the hood is at least 20-3- lbs. lighter than OEM. The spoiler is heavier than the stocker I think. The trunk may be about the same as OEM and I have no idea for the skirts or fascias. The fenders though are fairly lighter than OEM IIRC. I'd say I dropped maybe 50+ lbs overall? Maybe more but I don't want to assume too much. However, considering I'm 60 lbs. heavier than I was when I got the car in 99 I think it evens out. :P

Which spoiler? Mine or the one on the floor? The CF is custom build for my car. The fiberglass one is as already pointed out from one of the SC/T concept cars. I was working with my buddy to have it replicated for the GA community although that dropped off a few months ago.
You should race Spy in the GN. I know he's dying for a good challenge and with his new tune I think it'd be a good race to watch. Not sure how quick the GN is but if it's streetable I would assume its in the same range as Rob.

Possibly. Just FYI, it is real CF laid on top of an OEM cap. Fits perfectly but you will need to drill a screw out of the hinge as there's one stuck in there preventing you from installing it right away. Oh yeah...it's clear coated and everything. I need to go get it from my bodyshop guy.

I like it, although if it were me, I would paint over the carbon fiber. For me carbon fiber would be valued because I autocross and the car needs to lose all the weight it can. And about the whole firebird and prix thing, who cares about 1/4 straight lines. It doesn't take much or at least as much to just go down a straight line in a underpowered car. Try doing autox or roadcoarse where you actually need to know how your car handles.

Point taken. :) For me, it's a DD. I've got the connects that I needed to pound out everything cheaper than you guys could fathom and it still runs well after putting it thorugh 125K. Would I have set up my car the same way if I had to pay for the parts? HELL NO! But it is what it is. Gettin' ready for other endeavors now though like mortgage and new car payments...:(

Let's see. As for the CF spoiler being sold it's a definite possibility. Would need something to replace it but down the line it may be parted out.
As for getting sponsored, a lot of it had to do with being in the right place at the right time. AND understanding that looking for sponsorships or companies to take on products is much like looking for a job- it's a lot of planning and communication. Everything on the car was not something I initially had interest in- because of my location in CA I opted to try and get stuff moving for the entire community and let a couple companies borrow my car. In the end the kit never made it to full production although the trunk and fenders may be up for sale still somewhere. The hood is out of stock by Cerious Performance, but I also helped faciliate the production of CF SD hoods as well as trunks and SCT spoilers. I had other projects in the works but for the most part as a whole, people are all talk.
The kit itself would have retailed for about $2-3K alone; that's just for the front, rear and sides. Add another $5-600 for the trunk, $500 for the fenders, $5-600 for the spoiler and this bad boy starts getting expensive. But I only paid for the hood from Cerious Performance. The hood cost me about $350 shipped to my door from them on the East Coast. Did all the prep and paint work myself and cost me about $600 in supplies. So roughly under $1k for about $4k in parts and at least $2-4K on the paint if I had actually paid someone else to do it. Rims after powdercoating cost me $660 with new tires.
Considering I've had the car since 99 I haven't spent the exhuberant amount on it that you would expect.

thats really kool. well anyways earlier in the thread people were talkin about the headlights. some1 sugested u put black clearcorners on, and some1 else said to keep it the way it is cuz of the orange reflector. but heres a new idea. get urself a pair of black clear corners and cut them open. then u can do 1 of 2 things. either mask off and spray paint the inside of the reflector on the clearcorner lens, or u can take the lens off ur stock headlights on put them on the black housings. it would be custom and very cool. im thinking some day i might paint my reflectors but i dunno. i painted my dome light cover with trasperant candy apple red and it turned out gr8. heres a few pics.

i painted the inside and i love the result. i just may paint my reflectors the same color. i dunno. i guess the idea is u could have the black housing and orange reflectors. which would be sweet.
BTW have u done anything to the interior

I could just paint the insides of the headlights black and then I wouldn't have to go through all that trouble of buying anything new. I've been meaning to do this but eh...I'm lazy as hell and am looking for a new car anyways.
My interior is pretty much stock with a few silver painted interior pieces here and there.
