Hello Everybody,

Currently I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE with a 3.1 liter engine, WAI, and Flowmaster 40 series Cat back exhaust.

When I go to college this fall, I am going to learn to work on GM vehicles. I plan to replace my engine with a 3400 sfi engine from a newer Grand Am; from what i understand, it will bolt right up to all of the wires and transmission without any modifications. I would like to get the GT reat bumper and replace my exhaust with a dual exhaust, (I will get flowmasters again). and probabally a CAI.

I would like to know your thoughts on my plans and would like to know if there is anything else i could maybe install that would be worth the time and money. I purchased the "Tornado" thingy for my car before i found this site and it was a waste of money, i really dont want this to happen again, so any suggestions would be nice.

Thanks for all of your time, Matt

while you have the 3400 out you should get the manifolds port and polished, possibly get some underdrive pullys, and definitely get a CAI, there nice.

I echo that the Tornado is a waste of money ;).

As far as performance add-ons... Supercharger (If you want to put the money into one).

Btw, when you do get the 3400, make sure you do the LIM gasket change first. Use felpro gaskets and new bolts. The 3400 is highly susceptable to having the stock gasket go bad.

Also, make sure you use the right kind/amount of thread-lock on the bolts and use the revised bolt order and torque specs.

i thought you whould have to change the injectors?

New headers would complement the exhaust setup quite well, and it would be a good idea to get those before you get the exhaust redone. Sometimes you'll have problems getting them to bolt up to your existing exhaust pipes.

Just food for thought.

I would try a new MMS PCM with the engine, that should make a difference, just make sure you know what mods you will have since they program it to match that.

A person on my forum has a corsica and she swapped in a 3400 motor, although it seems as if it was just a swap and nothing was done to the engine. She runs 16.9 in the 1/4 but she is at a very high altitude.

Stuck caps? And what exactly is a euro exhaust, does it come from Germany?

Haha yeah, unless a "euro" exhaust uses square piping or something, I doubt it's any different. If you mean euro-styled tips, or a fart cannon muffler, then it's not a "EURO EXHAUST."

Oh, and posting like that is extremely annoying. It makes your message come across as portrayed by a 4 year old at show and tell.

Yeah, it's kinda like that.

Back on topic, I'm not sure about changing the injectors but if you do go with forced induction, you will need to get some higher flowing injectors. I THINK that you don't need to change injectors going from a 3100 to 3400, but someone who knows correct me.
