Hey... I have a 1998 grand am se and whenever I put my car in drive.. my driving lights and taillights come on...
I think it just looks kinda stupid when I have my headlight and taillight covers on... and the lights are on...
is there anyway to disable these driving lights in the head and tail light ?

thanks !!

There's a certain fuse you have to pull. I cannot remember which ones though.

a fuse being pulled on the 96-98 DRL's won't work. Maybe on the 2000+ GA's might.

I had to cut out the sensor under the vent up by the windshield inside the car, taped off the ends, then theres relays under the front core support that I had to pretty much cut, tapped those wires off,no more DRL's. I can still use the lights though, just have to turn the switch on the steering column

99+ pulling the fuse will give you a svs light. You have to cut and ground wires on the BCM on a 99+, sorry i cant help you with your Gen.

luckily for us 2003's we can pull the DRL's fuse and not get any SVS light :D
f you remove the bulbs in your taillights and headlights, that'd be a stupid move cuz they you will have to put them back in when u drive at night. im sure there is another way to disable them

why would you do that? You couldn't see at night and people behind you wouldn't know your stopping, definately don't do that

so ye ai pulled the fuse this weekend....well guess wha ti got....that damn SVS light...03graystone: the fuse is right under teh hood, that black box on the driver side. it's the #22 fuse. it's a bitch to get out though, some vice grips would work nicely

Are you sure your SVS light wasn't from when you pulled out your headlamps?

cool i think i will try that. i think i might forget that, and always forget to turn off my lights. thats the only thing i like about svs is that it turns on the lights for you, i dont even think twice to have to turn them off lol

Um...SVS is service vehicle soon, I think you meant DRL (daytime running lights), and DRL also controls your auto-lights.

For year 2000, to get rid of the drl's involves going to the BCM module under the glove compartment and cutting & grounding a couple of tiny wires. That was the very first thing I did when I got my car.

I also got rid of the ACL sensor too; very annoying to have headlights turn on prematurely just from driving into dense shade or parking under a shade tree, lol.. Sensor would think darkness was coming and turn on the headlights to full brightness.
I got sick of that and got rid of it.... No more ALC and no more DRL's to burn out my Sylvania SilverStar bulbs prematurely by running them at half-brightness during the daytime. Damn bulbs cost too much, and we all know how much fun it can be to change bulbs in the Grand Am headlight assembly.

There are how-to's for both those mods somewhere on the forum; not sure where I saw them because it was a couple years ago, and I am old and need Ginkoba therapy....

Never drive with the ebrake on, not even just a bit. It'll usually cause more problems and it is not worth it.

I think he means pull it up before start up than put it back down before he drives.

sudden_impulse

When you put it back down the lights turn on, and you can't use the e-brake to turn them off again unless you restart the car. Usually driving with the e-brake up one click doesn't engage the brakes enough to do anything. Don't blame me or any other member if it does do something bad though.

Yes, but the warning chimes & brake light also get rather annoying. ;)

I just ran some errands today and if you pull the e-brake up 1 click start the car and put the brake back down the lights stay off. At least with mine it works.
