When I run my fan its fairly cold even when its hot outside but when I turn my air conditioning on there is not a difference. Is the fan supposed to be putting out cold air and if not do you think there is something wrong with my ac that makes it cold all the time on both fan and ac. Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me like your ac compressor is indeed engaged. Do you have the defroster selected as this will run the ac even with the ac not selected. If your ac is being told to come on your radiator fan will also be running and you should be able to hear it. Your clutch could be stuck in the engaged position causing the compressor to run. You also have a relay for the clutch that may be faulty. You can manually unplug the clutch on the compressor and if the compressor still runs you need a new clutch. If the compressor stops you need to continue working back thru the circuit until you find the problem. You will need to have a schematic of the electrical system for this and know how to use it. The library is a good place to look this up if you don't want to buy a manual.

It's not about the selected fan speed or 'running the heater/AC fan'.

It's about which settings you have the selected on the ductwork dial.

Read your car's glovebox Owner's Manual about 'climate control.' * The 'In-your-face' icon will blow hot or normal air, depending on hot/cold selection.
It will only blow Refrigerated air (AC) if you select AC 'on'.
* The 'In-your-face AND on-your-tootsies' icon will blow cold (AC) air on your face, even if the AC button is 'off'; at the same time it will blow heated air onto your feet.
* The 'Defrost-and-Tootsies' icon will blow hot air at the windshield and onto your toes, BUT the AC will still be 'on' (even though the button is 'off' and so is the indicator bulb) since the Def setting uses the AC coil to remove moisture from the air.

'Tis indeed weird, but I think your system is working correctly.
You just need to understand it a little better.

Hope this helps,
