on my 89 2.3 the front mount is below the oil filter between the block and the raditor. I've never had to find the back one.
My front one is broke and has been for a few years now. I just took some strong Tow chain and a tempered bolt and chainded the thing down.

Ive wondered that also.. My engine torques like crazy when I put it in gear, but then it doesnt move at all.. Ive checked the mounts on the passerengers side and drivers side and they are good.. My 85 has a brace that supress torque thats bolted to the lower part of the tranny, but im unable to find it on the 95..:???: :???: :???:

If you replace one mount you should replace ALL your mounts. So plan on replacing all of them.

what makes you say this?... sorry it kinda seems like saying, if your replacing your rear struts reaplace your fronts... even if they are still good.
the side mounts recive almost no tourqe at all... i don't know on the quad motors but on every other FWD i've played w/ the front and rear mounts are the ones that die and need replacing.
no flame sound intended if it sounds that way... i just can't figure out why you'd say something like that.

Well for one, shocks and struts are not motor mounts :)
Okay I've read it before that if you replace 1 motor mount you should replace all of them. Probably because the other mounts maybe worn. Because a mount isn't broken(cracked) doesn't mean the rubber isn't worn. Remember stock isn't always the best either, Polyurathane mounts are better than the stock rubber ones. Unfortunately I cannot find any info at this time on exactly why its recommended to replace all mounts. I'm going to keep looking to find EXACTLY why its recommended to replace all mounts.

both? isn't there like 4 or so? (i know my mr2 has 4, the rolla has 5)
i still want to get a good look at the front and rear mounts... depending on the style of motor mount you can fill them w/ urithane which makes them solid for about $15 rather then buying new which is insanely expensive in comparison :)

Where did you get both from? Well as I said, I will keep my eye out for the site that mentioned why it's better to replace all mounts. I personnally wouldn't mind getting all Polyurathane mounts, I have been debating this for a little while now, but you know that saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I am really starting to think that doesn't apply to cars hehe.

This is probably where he got it from although most of the times you did say ALL of the mounts.

yup that would be where i got the "both" from haha
i agree in most cases on the if it aint broke don't fix it... it's just mine is broke :)... and having filled the mounts in my mr2 i know how much of a differnce it makes... if i could do only one mod to my mr2 that would be the one... when i pull the tranny from the geo (rolla) i plan on doing it to her also... it makes the clutch and throttle feel MUCH more connected... not to mention it will help w/ keeping axles from braking and stuff.
does anyone have any pics of where the mounts SHOULD be? the motor rocks so much now the exhaust is rattling against the heat sheilds around the cat... sounds bad ugg.
thanks guys

You guys need to get off the drugs :D Tell me exactly what you did to the duece. I am intrested to know more about it, I have a loud metal knocking in my engine bay. I am hoping its just my strut, I'm not missing shifts or anything. Although sometimes first get's stuck in gear, thinking that could be due to tranny probs though.

more or less i did this... http://www.racingstrong.com/aw11/KS-mounts.asp except i used a putty urithane type of stuff called 3M windo-weld... and i didn't remove any of the old stock rubber... doing like he did you'll get A LOT of engine vibration in the car...
the windo weld stuff is stuff you use to replace winsheilds and such... it it comes in a caulkin gun tube kinda thing... takes about a week to cure... the biggest thing is it removes the voids in the motor mounts no longer letting the stock rubber "give" like it did before.
the problem may be the design of our motor mounts... if i can freaking find either of them i can pull a set from the junkyard and experment... if it works i'd be willing to do the mod for ya w/ my "spare mounts"
just need to locate the mounts still haha... sad thing is i've done 2 oil changes now and still can't find the things

Ok i have replaced mine so i know where they are. The front one is right in front of you when you open your hood. Its to the far left and and looks like a brace sticking up with two bolts that you can get to from looking directly into the brace also known as the dogbone mount. It is exactly to the left of the timing chain cover. The rear mount aka the torque strut mount is located exactly right beneath the dogbone. Just take off your passenger side wheel and you should see the bottom of a block rubber insert and above it you will see i think its two or three bolts. There is also the tranny mount which is the one i will be changing tomorrow. Pm if you have any question donalson.
