i blew this head gasket to start with. having the engine tore down to the block i said hell im gonna get this head milled (higher compression) gasket matched port and polish job, new lifters, the whole nine yards right. after all was said and done i go to start this piece and it runes fine for a min then chugs, no backfire or anything just will idle high then low than high etc. it does this every time. sensor maybe? which one?

Fuel delievery? Maybe its not getting enough fuel to burn. I don't know how much you can do before you need to start upgrading the stock fuel system. But IMO I would get at least an adjustable FPR, maybe even a high flow pump? Are your plugs firing correctly?

If the RPM jump is close to a grand or 2 then most likely it's a vacuum leak.

Starts High....sits there for about 30 seconds then goes into this run strong, then crap out, catch and run strong, then crap out...over and over.

If that sounds right, it's a vacumm leak, the motor is going into Hunt Mode. It's hunting for the right Air Fuel mixture. The IACV Idle Air Control Vaulve could also be plugged.

The IVAC control the air fuel mixture. Look for loose or crimped hoses, if you don't see one, pull the IACV can clean it.

Might also CAREfully spray Carb Cleaner along the intake gasket to see if it's leaking.
