i decided on 4 rectangle rocker switchs and im gonna put them either next to my seat or on the roof of that hvac hole. the only problem is...how do i make a square hole?

im sure behind the switch there is a round mounting threaded part and the switch came with a round nut to mount behind that

You make a couple of holes with a drill and file the corners square. Make four smaller holes, one in each corner and connect the dots.
Try it out on some scrap first to get the procedure and tools assembled. You could also use a square hole punch but they cost more than the four switches.

if your hand is steady enough, a dremel will do. for getting the rough shape and edges. The very corners can be done with, as tenspeed said, a file.
