I want to put two blue leds in the front corners of my dash, close to
the window and hook them up to a toggle switch, so when I park my car it'll look like a alarm system, but is it possible to make them blink from one to another, I know I should by an alarm but money is tight and i just want to try this cheap investment over my rims and subs

You'd have to wire up a circuit for it....I imagine something with a 555 timer on it....but I imagine you wouldn't know how to do that. Might see if there's something already produced for this...I would imagine there would be.

This (http://www.quasarelectronics.com/4008.htm) is from a UK site, but it's pretty much just what you'd be looking for (except it's red) and I imagine there must be something simliar made over here.

And as for wireing it my aunt made harnesses and wired the lights for firetrucks and police cars over 10 years, but I like doing these lil projects myself, so I can be proud of it

Seems like if money's too tight for an alarm, it would be too tight for a system, too. But if you have to do it, instead of buying the system now, with no way to protect it, why not buy an alarm first? Later, QD.

He already has the system and rims, he wants an investment to try keeping would-be theives away. If you could get to a junkyard, you could try using the turn signal system out of a junked 99+ GA, since that has the front signals going back and forth between eachother. You'd probably need lots of resistors since it's such a small load for single LEDs than turn signals, but it might work if you have enough time.

^^^ Gotcha. If I were worried about security, though, I would've bought the alarm first. And why go fake. Here are three scenarios that may happen:

1. A "thief" looking around parking lots for a stereo or something passes your car. But he notices the 2 blue strobing lights. That's going to draw his attention to your car. Even if he wasn't going to stop at your car, you've just invited him over. He's going ot check for an alarm and find out you don't have one and you're (possibly) out one stereo system.

2. If you insist on "faking" the alarm, I wouldn't do what you're wanting to do. If you try and go creative on your "set-up," someone's going to know that you have something going on in your car. If you have just a normal one flashing red light, then it will look more factory and less like you have a big system.

3. A "good thief" will know it's probably fake.

I'm not trying to flame, but give advice. Later, QD.

QD's right. If I were a thief I'd go for the cars with the flashy alarm warning. It basically advertises that the car has something to steal inside that's worth the time. Once this thief goes near your car and maybe taps it to see if you have an alarm and nothing happens, the light has just become useless. Just some advice.

I wouldn't say it would invite a thief but they will definately TEST the car to see if the lights have anything behind them,as far as a siren,if he can pull the door handle slightly up and nothing hes good as gold to try and break in. If he gets a siren he will just calmly walk away

One nudge of the car and the theif will know its fakes.

Most theives if they want something, they will scope it our for a few days atleast. One night they might 'test' your alarm, the next night they hit it.
