Recently bought a second grand am, white 96 4 door with a 3.1

going to fix it up and either sell it, or keep it and sell my 93 depending on how it goes.

I need to buy a service manual set for a 96 grand am, but currently I only see service manuals for 97 grand ams. I didn't think there was much if any change between the 96 and 97 models, should I be ok with the 97 service manual set or just wait until I can find one for a 96?

You did? Cool.

Yeah they are the same. I can't think of many, if any differences, and the 97 manual should be fine. 97 is a changeover year manual wise, I think. So parts of the manual were changed to the newer style and other parts are the older style (if we're talking about the GM/Helm manuals). In 98 I think it changed fully to use 3 manuals instead of 2, which makes the manuals easier to handle.

Any of 96, 97 or 98 should be fine. The differences between these years are minor.

I know for one that the ECM and stuff related to that is different, thats why HPtuners doesnt work on 96's. Im sure theres alot of things that got changed between the 96-97 model year you would never think of.
