well i just added a new H/U to my 05 GAGT and I had to spend 75 bucks on a wiring kit. I wanted to just hard wire the new deck in there, but the G/F wouldnt let me. Its so dumb! you have to put the stock h/u in the trunk run this big bunch of wires up to the new deck. Now for the really dumb part. When I turn my key off. My new deck shuts off, but the one in the trunk stays on. And is makes some loud static noises in the speakers. Is this right? or can i take that back and just hard wire my new H/U in. guy at the sound shop said that my Air bags will not work then.
I hard wired my H/U into my 2006 HHR and had no problems till I was T-boned. Air bags did not deploy. any help guys/ gals?

LMAO. Yeah the one in the turnk "stays on" because it's kept there for your chimes or whatever. You should have gotten a kit with a chime module instead, heh... (If one exists that is.)
I sounds like you might have a ground loop somewhere that is causing the static/popping with the other decks. Ground loops can be a genuine PITA as trying to eliminate a loop can be quite frustrating and time consuming.

Thanks! Thats what I am thinking it is. I really hate this kit. Going to just hard wire it I think and screw the air bags.lol

I don't think you will affect the airbags at all, but you will lose your chimes. That's about it on the Grand Am, I believe.

Wont affect airbags or abs or anything. I got a kit from metra that keeps deck on and leaves data to it, but I still dont get chimes. Oh well, the bright yellow light tells me when I need gas and I dont ever forget my keys.

You have a 1999/2000. Those were not really affected. I think they used the same setup from the 1996-1998.
