I have the Viper 791XV alarm on my car, but something is seriously wrong with my remote.. It just goes spastic, and keeps trying to restart, but it never gets full started, so it's just blinking and beeping the whole time... So, I'm guessing I need a new remote.. Does anyone know where to get a cheap one? Best Buy wantd 189 bucks for the friggin remote! :jaw:

Trish, have you tried a new battery, or cleaning the battery contacts? Mine do that when the battery voltage is very low.

Tried a new battery, I haven't tried cleaning the contacts.. Just alcohol? I may try that, I miss my alarm :(

Use an eraser

Use a regular pencil eraser Not a pen eraser. Just rub the eraser on the contacts. It will clean them nicely without damaging them. :)

if that doesen't work and its a watch type battery put some tin foil on the back to make the battery thicker on my HU my controller wouldnt work al the time and only some buttons would work because the contacts were not touching the battery

Trish, you can also try bending the contacts out slightly so they get a firmer connection against the battery.

Common issue on DEI 2-way remotes. Common as in that's when you know you pretty much have to get a new remote... If your unit is still under warranty and you had it installed at an authorised place with good service, they'll probably swap it out for you on the spot. DEI dealers see tons of these things coming back under warranty, lol.
Otherwise, look for a replacement on eBay. They aren't exactly cheap there either but at least not as expensive as buying from DEI or a shop.

dang and i was thinking about buying this alarm too..off the internet..but i bet if i bought it off the net and somthing went wrong with it then i would be screwed because the shop prlly wouldnt take it back because i didnt buy it from them.. :(

^Actually most shops wouldn't even install it for you. It's against DEI policy these days. Some shops will just take your money (and a lot of it, lol) and give you zero support after though, as you mentioned.
If you need something like this installed (meaning any alarm or RS) then you should probably go with an authorised shop with a good reputation and good customer service.
I do think going on eBay and buying stuff like this is a good idea, but only if you're going to install it yourself and only if you know that the money you're saving may have to go into repairing/replacing things if something should go wrong with it (because you'll have no warranty in most cases).

*knocking on wood*, but my 791xv is almost 3 years old, and I have had no issues whatsoever, with the exception of the Viper logo sticker falling off one of my 2 remotes. :)
I never heard of this being a problem, but I don't doubt it's possible. As Roland mentioned, so long as it was purchased properly, you shouldn't have much issue returning it, it's clearly defective. :(
