i have a 1000W Amp 2 channels. 500W each channel. I also have 2 Audiobahn dub200 subs which are 400W RMS.
I have some 5 gauge power wire. I am wondering if this wire will be large enough for my set up. Also i am going to get a distrubution box and i have 8 guage wire to hook on the other end of the box and onto the amp. I just want to make sure all of this will work before i do it.

Thanks

also i have 14gauge speaker wire should that be good enough for my subs?

5 Gauge ? lol wtf .... I would use 12 gauge for the speaker wire.. at least imo but im not a certified installer... why the dist. block ? what size wire will the amp accept ? meaning will it take a 4 gauge ? are you using the dist block to power 2 amps ?

What size wire does the amp specs reccomend ? if you give me the model number Ill be happy to do a search on it and find out. Why the dist block... using two amps ?

yea its 5 gauge scosche power/ground wire. The screw teminals on the amp will accept the 5 gauge wire but i will have to cut the wire so its thinner

I kinda doubt that specific amp needs 5 gauge wire... .I would maybe go with 8 but wait to see if someone with more brains than me get on and answer..... I looked up that amp but found a bunch of dead links and not a lot of info.

So are you going to use the dist. block to run 2 amps ? if not I wouldnt mess with it. Just run the power wire straight to it.

EDIT: Nevermind that info. After reviewing it closer it is really worthless.. lol...

thanks for the info. So you think i should just cut the wire from the 5 gauge and make it thinner to fit?

Well, I wouldnt cut to make it thinner, but thats just me. Maybe return the wire kit to where you got it and get a 8 gauge wire install kit. Or you could wait to see what other members have as input. I dont think theres a need for the dist. block unless your using multiple amps.

If it were my setup I would use 8 gauge wire for the power and ground... make sure the ground wire is at least as big as your power wire. and use 12 gauge for the subs. Just me though.
I would be hesitant to cut the wire to make it thinner for obvious reasons including apperance and maybe future problems down the road. Just my thoughts, I know how shit works for me and if I did that I could see some serious problems coming for me down the road. Again this is just my thoughts, Im not the smartest person at this stuff. Just trying to help you out a little.

Good luck with it and let me know how it turns out.

For future use this might be of some help for you. This is assuming of course the amps your using put out real true watts.... meaning your amp you have now says 1000w but Im sure it doesnt put out that. Not trying to discount the amp but just giving my thoughts.
