ok i have a 5 gauge wire connected to the fuse and then back to the 12v terminal of the amp. I have the RCAs connected to the headunit and the amp. i have the remote wire from the headunit to the remote terminal on the amp and i have the ground running from the ground terminal of the amp to a place on the car i know is grounded. I also tried grounding it to the - battery still nothing. All of the fuses are intact. The only thing i can think of that could be causing a problem would be im using 5 gauge power wire and 8 gauge ground wire but i would still get a connection.
anyone have anything to say?

first get a tester and make sure your getting power to the amp, then if u have power turn on the hu and see if the amp will turn on, if not then check your remote and rca again, make sure the rca is not accidentally in the input rca, if none of this works borrow a amp from a friend and hook it up to see if it is your amp.
as for the size of the power wire it should still work just may not be up to the amps full potential

This wouldnt effect it but you need to use at least the same size ground as power. if you use 8 gauge power you need at least 8 gauge ground... if 4 gauge power then 4 gauge ground...

Rule out RCAs for this problem. They won't affect your power problem. Do you have a fuse in your fuseholder? That's a common mistake. What did you connect the remote wire to? Like DSM said, make sure your ground is the same size gauge as your power wire.
It's either your power wire, remote or ground.
It could also be your amp. Hopefully your amp is good.

yes i have a fuse in the fuseholder. As far as the RCAs i will check them out as soon as im done here. Also it is an 8 gauge wire going into the amp because i have my 5 gauge going back but i have a dist block because the 5 gauge is to fat for the screw terminals

Not true at all. It's only true if both wires are from the battery, or are both the same length; and, even then, only if you want the minimum current handling to be that of the larger wire.
Wire gauge is simply based on cross-sectional area and the resultant resistance per unit distance.
I.e. At any given wire gauge and given conductor material, the shorter the wire the more current it can handle (the less resistance it will have). So while your mainline may be 12-20ft from the battery, your ground is often 3-6ft. So you can easily get away with using a lighter gauge wire for ground since it's (usually) a shorter wire.

I dont know everything is hooked up correct all fuses are good. it has to be the amp its probably dead. the fuses in the amp are good though. i got this from my friend, he was using this amp 3 weeks ago with the same exact fuses. so i have no clue

5 gauge eh? Where'd you get that? lol. I'm guessing this is industrial/commercial cable, since consumer-level wire is usually not available in odd gauge sizes.

Yeah, um, maybe your amp is dead? When you say you had the ground connected somewhere you "know is grounded", what does that mean exactly? LOL. I mean did you sand/drill the point yourself or are you using a factory ground point or?

it was a spot that worked for me last time i had a system in my car. and i meant that is was a spot to ground the amp at. and i got the 5 gauge wire from a friend who got it at walmart

Really eh? I guess some of the "budget" car audio wire companies are starting to tell the truth about their wire gauge sizes, lol. A lot of cheaper "4 gauge" stuff you find is not really 4 gauge at all, for example. And that's typically what they do--buy 5 gauge wire and resell it as 4 gauge...

I know there is a Scosche kit at Walmart that uses 5 gauge wire...

i did notice after looking over my car again that i have the remote wire connected to the blue wire on the harness which i believe is the power antena correct? so tomorrow i will try to switch it to the blue/white wire which is the amp wire correct?

You could also just run the remote wire to your battery (JUST TO SEE IF IT GETS POWER) and if it does, then you have the remote mixed with another wire that is not a constant 12v when the car/radio is on.

Yeah just jumper the remote terminal on the amp to the +12V terminal, just to test it out.
What kind of HU is it anyway? Even if you wired it to the antenna remote wire though, the amp would at least come on when the radio was on. Some manufacturers like Pioneer IIRC have the antenna remote powered all the time when the HU is ON, regardless of whether it's in tuner mode or some other mode is being used.
