hey everyone... been reading alot of post about the factory deck and the lose of your chimes when its gone blah blah... so i looked into the GMRC-01 module/wiring kit and when i put my car details in crutchfield says it wont work for my car. btw its an 01 grand am gt with the monsoon system. help here on clarifiying??

Iirc, the 01 didn't have the issue. It uses the older style harness. It was the ones that were newer, I know the 04/05's require it. The Chimes in the old style wiring lies elsewhere, so it shouldn't be disabled with the aftermarket radio.

**Edit: Nevermind... I was thinking of the GP...** Um... apparently the Monsoon is wired differently than the non-monsoon deck, and won't work with the GMRC-01. Unless there is another chime harness out there, You may end up needing to relocate the monsoon deck.

yea know i hate gm... othing can be easy anymore... all i want is the alpine 9883 (i believe) and a v-power amp and a type s sub.. and the things a person needs to spend to get chimes or the steering controls to work is nuts.

I had to buy the harness adapter for my 01 GT to install my aftermarket HU. It cost me around $60 at Radio Shack, but then 2 weeks after I had it installed Wal-Mart started carrying what I needed for $35.

My 02 GA GT came with the Monsoon and my Alpine HU works fine with the GMRC-01 harness. I am sure 01 and 02 are the same. So I think Crutchfield is wrong.

ummm nope. 2001 was the first year for the class data 2 system in the grand am

I wrote in my comment on the edit that I was thinking of the Grand Prix on that one by accident.

Yes, but the rest of your edit was incorrect as well. The GMRC-01 is for 2001-2005 Grand Am GTs with the Monsoon system. It is the correct harness.
