All right, I'm having some issues with the AM radio pickup in my car. I've got a Clarion DXZ745MP HU, and and aftermarket antenna, not sure of brand, it was on car when I bought it, its shorter than most and is bent into a "spring" in the middle. Also have a Viper alarm, and there are some "modules" under the HU.
The only time the reception is decent is when the engine is off. Any time anything electrical (gage cluster, lights, etc.) turns on, there's noise, and also when revving the engine. This makes me think it could be a ground issue, but none of this happens with the FM. Just thought I'd ask here before I inspect my wiring. Thanks.

Sounds like ignition noise to me, especially from when you rev the engine. Grounding better and eliminating and trying to eliminate ground loops might be yhour first course of action. Also try another antenna. If those fail, try changing the igntion wires, as the ignition noise may be cured or at least reduced with set of better suppression ignition wires.
