Hey guys..

I was washing my car today and I think either the sponge or the towel had a little pebble in it which scratched a small area of the hood. I don't think its all that bad but I don't want it there. Does anybody know a good product I could use to remove it?

I tried to get a pic of it..

*EDIT*
When the spot gets wet, it disappears (and it doesnt feel like theres any substance to it).. so I'm pretty sure its not cut into the paint, but might just be.. smeared on the clearcoat or something?

You might be able to buff it out if it isn't past the clearcoat.

By hand, scratch-X would reduce the appearance, but get rid of completely probably not until after your arm has fallen off heh.

scratch-x?

Does that damage the surrounding paint at all? I guess what I mean is.. does it dull it or anything?

Start here for info on scratchX

You scratched your clear coat pretty good, hard to believe you didnt feel that when you rubbed the paint, i mean seriously. It can be taken out easily, but not by hand, thats pretty serious.

Thanks for the input! I'll tackle it on my next day off.. or if I need a machine or something I know the carwash has a detailing section where they can take care of that.

I would be hesitant on taking it to a place like that, they ussually do more harm than good.

To bad your not in michigan, i would fix that for $20, i would actually buff out your whole hood for $20.

Thanks for the offer though :)

I was looking at it more today, an yeah.. can't feel a thing. I'm pretty sure a little bit of TLC with the scratch-x will take it right out

If you cant feel a scratch its a good sign, it can be removed :)

Hey!

So I picked up the Scratch-x, polishing pads, and a polishing cloth and it seems to have done the trick! I can hardly notice it, and when I cool down im gonna go give it another go an see if I can get it out completely.
It's like 90+ here today.. an I worked up quite a sweat haha, but atleast it seems to have worked! I think i'm gonna try a few other little places too.. there was a scratch kind of on the top of the door (somehow) from before a bought the car.

After I wiped it off with the polishing cloth I went over the area with a towel an some water too.. just to make sure I got everytihng off, so I hope that wasnt a bad choice lol

Wow, so I just went out for a 2nd go.. and now I can't even see the affected area.. I had to use a little rock chip from the highway as a landmark in order to find the spot with the scratch  I'm so happy now, it even took out a little white smudge on my passenger side door from somebody door dinging me.. nice!

Did you read the *HOW-TO* on the megs forum?

Yeah thats where I got the info on the pads an whatnot to buy.

It didn't say anything about wiping it off with water but I figured i'd rather be safer. Looks great, thanks for the help! :)

You really dont need to use water or anything when wiping it off.
