Okay i just purchased a new SLP catback exhaust system. I am wondering if any members would be willing to come over when i get my exhaust to help install it? Pleaseeee it would save alot of money for installation

Its pretty self explanatory. The hardest part you may have is removing the old exhuast.
A shop wouldnt charge more than an hours labor.

yeah i dont have the equipment to be able to cut and take off the old exhaust. I would perfer to do it myself and get to kno my car better its just the equipment and this is a pretty big jump from doing a CAI urself. I was just hoping there were members in the philly area that could help me do it. If not it looks like a shop is where i am goin

You dont need much for equipment, basic hand tools is all you need.

I did mine in the drive way using jack stands and two floor jacks. There were two tough parts to the install. One was cutting off the bolts at the flange and the other was getting the pipe over the axle. Everything else was a snap. Just get it lined up and tighten the clamps.
A saws-all is handy for cutting the old piping and the flange bolts. I replaced their flange bolts with stainless 3/8" bolts. I used a 3'8" countersink to clean out/widen the holes.
You might want to take the car to a shop to get those bolts cut/torched off.

BTW, I sold my old SE muffler to someone who was turning their lease back in - $25 + shipping.

yeah i kno the installing the new system is supposed to be not bad its just getting the old system off that I am worried about. Like u recommended to take it to a shop to have the bolts cut/torched off. But i am there with all the bolts off already i cant drive like that so i would might as well get them to do the whole thing. it looks like i will probably be making a trip to a local shop unless someone can drive to Bucks county pa and help me get that old system off.
Is it possible to take off the stock exhaust so that it can be put back on just as was originally assembled? In the event that I got rid of the GA with an aftermarket exhaust, I'd rather sell the aftermarket to someone on here and reinstall the stocker.

Give them the three bolts that come with the new system and drive it home.
New bolts come off a lot easier than old rusty bolts.....

Torch, WD-40 or PB, or a grinder. The third method is the best as it doesn't damage anything else (torch + plastic or rubber = bad idea) and it works better than waiting for the PB to work its magic.

okay we used wd-40 and broke the head of the one bolt off...... great..... yeah well we are waiting for a friend to call back to see if he can help us. most shops are sayin 100+ dollars for complete install because they insist it will take longer because we broke the bolt. ughhhhh damn rust

Get a drill with a bit in that size that is made for metal. Make sure it does not touch the threaded portion. Drill in the middle and make sure it doesn't go off center. If you used a good size it got the core out and some of the threads may have even falled out. You then take a tap in the right size and use it as a thread chaser, removing the old metal from the rusted bolt.

If you don't feel comfortable staying away from the threads, find a mechanically inclined friend who has heli-coiled heads and drilled stripped bolts out. Almost anybody that has restored more than one engine has some experience with this, especially if they are old engines or new aluminum heads with over tightened or snapped spark plugs.

okay good information blackhawk. thanks for ur help so far. i took the car to a very experienced mechanic that is a good friend of my grandpops. it took him an hour to get them damn old bolts off. he hasnt seen nething that rusted over in a long time. and my car is a 2003 lololol sweet. but yeah he torched n drilled and all kind of shit. that top bolt was hard to get and took the majority of the time. tomorrow me and my grandpop will be putting the slp in. ughhh i cant wait.

Yeah, the top tends to be annoying on any vehicle. No problem on the info, my dad restores muscle cars in his spare time and my friends dad does too, I tend to soak these things up from them.

Pennsylvania State Police. Cars with leaking or no exhaust are likely to spark their eye (And their light bar button)

You can cut a little off the hanger and get it over the axle from the rear of the car (I think). I didn't know about cutting the hanger part when I did mine and got a small crack at the weld.

yeah i had to cut sum of the hanger and then put sum .... alot of muscle into it. man was that difficult. well everything is on now and it sounds sooo mean. every thing looks great its just my tips look slightly off center of the bumper. like if lookin at my bumper the left side is a lil closer to center than the right side. o well i dont care. i wanted a gt and my parents said no because of insurance rates so i got the se with the v6 added 3 piece cold air intake with k&n and slp exhaust and made a much better version of the gt haha. i am officially done modding the car and i am soo happy with it haha

You might be able to loosen the clamps and move the tips so they are centered.

Get your ruler and measure the 90's that come out of the muffler. It could be that one leg of the ninety is longer than the other and you have one in backwards.

Can someone link me to the SLP exhaust? I've searched their site and I can't seem to find it. Also, Jim, this is the system you went with, right? And you say it's not raspy at all? Just want to make sure b/c my exhaust manifold has a bad leak and they want almost $350 to replace. Hell, for a little extra I can get the coated headers and the SLP catback (was considering Monza but I heard very bad things). Also, any recommendations on a hi-flow cat or does it matter which company it comes from? I want to order everything by tomorrow so I'm trying to get everything situated. Thanks.
