View Full Version : Toggle Switch to Bypass DVD Issues

Hey all,
So I've scoured the web as well as these forums for this with no specific luck. If there has been a post regarding this, please just excuse me this one time, and humor me. That said, I just purchased a Jensen VM9412, and installed it yesterday. I know of every way under the sun to bypass the DVD lockout feature, and believe me people, it only gets harder and harder. There is NO CODE for this Jensen model, so that rules out the easy way. You cannot ground the e-brake wire permanently, as it needs a pulse to operate. The only solution is the toggle switch method. But, please, I don't want to screw this up, so can someone please tell me what to wire to each of the contacts on this switch or a switch like it:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?parentPage=search&pg=3&summary=summary&cp=&productId=2062493&accessories=accessories&kw=switch&techSpecs=techSpecs¤tTab=accessories&custRatings=custRatings&sr=1&features=features&origkw=switch&support=support&tab=summary
It has 3 contacts. I know I need to include the e-brake cable coming from the stereo as well as a ground from the stereo. Where do I put each of those? And which contact should I put the constant 12v power to? I believe this switch specifically has an LED on it, so if that makes a difference in my positioning of wires to contacts, please let me know. Again, all I'm looking for is which contact should take which wire. Thanks for your help everyone. I look forward to hearing back.

If it has an LED then the prongs should be power, ground, and to object, in no order.

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses... it verified what I had already thought, and I'm glad for that. Aside from that, there actually is NO code for the new Jensen mobile video units. I called the factory today pretending to be a manager at a local Circuit City, and I told them I needed the code so I could demo a unit on the floor without the use of an emergency brake. He totally boyght into myt gimmick, and informed me that there is no code at all, and they have been recommending an in-line interrupting switch to their clients. At least that definiteivly stops my search for the code, and I'll quit wasting my time with that. I'll pull my VM9412 out again this Saturday, and get the switch going, and I'll report back. Thanks for your help. Pictures to come (she has many mods and hasn't yet shown her face on this forum).

I have the VM9510 from Jensen and I just grounded it to the ground on my radio harness and it works.

I wish it was that easy. Unfortunately, the 9510, 9410, 9310, etc etc were all last year's models, and since then, Jensen has brightened up considerably. The e-brake cable now requires a periodic pulse to ensure it that the emergency brake is in fact engaged. The only way to reproduce this is by making a switch act like the emergency brake... pulse it the proper number of times in the proper sequence, and then leave her on. It's fairly straightforward, and some see it as a hassle, but it really isn't. No police issues if that's a concern, because of the on/off capabilities, and it gives me an excuse to get another switch in my console, which can only be a plus, haha!

Ah well Ive never had trouble with the police and I have visor and headrest screens also. That sucks they make it hard like that, but its worth it. Although I hardly use the video feature, I have a few times but I forget to watch the road when I do.

In the owners manual for your jensen it tells you the sequence for the ebrake. Its generally an on-off wait a few seconds then on a few seconds then off again Then your video will be on the screen.
Its really nothing overly complicated. the E brake wire just needs a - signal in a particular sequence in order to be bypassed.

I know all this. Thanks for all your input. I have the sequence down, I have the switch. The original question was just a very simple "which wire to which contact?" I needed to make sure my assumptions were correct. From there, I'm golden. I'll update everyone soon.

sorry to not answer your original question, but theres a devise from PAC that will give you rthe pulses automatically. not sure of the model number, but we used it when i worked in car audio for the units that required that. you can program it to the sequence needed. again, sorry for not directly asnnwering you,a nd it looks like you want the switch anyway, but if you dont then check into this.
EDIT: found it http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=188

Again, the 9411 is from last season. Though the pulse and the technology behind that is the same, the codes are never the same from season to season. And this season, unfortunately for me, I am 99.9% positive there is no code, as I said in an earlier post from a conversation I had with a technical service employee straight from Jensen as I pretended to be a floor manager for Circuit City. The switch is fine... everyone loves switches!

The three prongs on the switch are Positive, Negative, and ACC... acc being the one that you would hook the wire up from the filp out to

Got my switches installed, turned on the head unit, did the sequence... and nothing! dammit... does anyone know what I'm doing wrong. I got a 2-prong switch... I put a ground wire from the lower prong to the ground coming right off my head unit... About 2 inches back from where it enters the unit itself. I then ran an "e-brake" line to the upper prong and then into the e-brake wire on teh back of teh head unit... anything sound wrong here? Any input would be great... by the way, the switch is this:

Thanks again.

The jensen sequence can be tricky, but it sounds like you have it hooked up correctly. Do you know the sequence that the parking brake wire must see?

mine was on off on it took me hours to get it to work its all about timing

Before I read all the replies, I went out there and screwed with it some more... and, it was indeed about the timing of my sequence. In the owner's manual, it says three to five seconds between pulses... it's actually like 1-2. So I'm all good now, and I can tribute a lot of it to the help of the kind people on this forum. I'm posting some pics of my GA in the rides section if you all want to check them out. Thanks again.
