I am thinking about doing up an exahust with a flowmaster 80 series. I like the sound of GtAudioFreak's exhaust. I think his was a flow 80. Is an aluminized muffler ok? Also will the flowmaters that say only for V8 work on my GA. I was looking to do 2.5 in dual 2.5 out. With the resonator does it sound better in or out? Looking for as low of a rumble as I can on a V6

I agree GtAudioFreak's exhaust sounds insanely good! I was also wondering about the v8 model, id assume it would because normally mufflers are universal.

The V8 is just what it was made for. The 80 is designed to be used in an F-body transverse setup, not an N-body, but it's fine. A resonator is sometimes recommended for these applications to reduce raspiness, but I don't think Allen used a resonator in his setup.

Nope as you already know I didn't use one. They are right, the muffler is labeled for use as firebirds/camaros.

I have one on my car too and it sounds just like Allens. I would suggest doing away with the resonator though and going straight out of the cat.

So a flowmaster 80 designed for a v8 2.5 in/out with no resonator will be it.

For my 04 Grand Am SE, would the 40/80 series add any performance or just sound? Meaning if I wanted to maximize HP/torque gain would I have to get piping from the cat-back or would stock piping work? If piping is needed, what would be a reasonable price for it?

Ive heard people on here say that if you takein the muffler you want, its about 200-ish for a shop to install it an trun new piping

Magnaflow muffler from Jegs 2.5 in/out-- 130
Magnaflow Hi-Flo cat from Jegs 2.5 in/out-- 90

so yea, around $400

Flowmaster muffler $91
Magnaflow cat $60
piping $175

When someone sees your in a Grand Am and not a Camaro PRICELESS

yeah I have Flows too, no res..and it rumbles below 5 thousand RPM
after that it kinda dies away and (from the inside) all I hear is the engine screaming!

HAHA thanks adam I had to. I would much rather hear my engine at 5k rpm than my exhaust. if you hear exhaust then your probably driving a honda.

Or you have a nice exhaust leak near you and should get it checked out. One of the school's cars has a leak and you get woozy everytime you even drive it for a minute.

no neither, I kinda over reacted when I said 5k, and no exhaust leak, at least not noticed, by smell or loss of brain cells >.>

but I dont know how I feel about hearing the car... I can hear the car no matter what. but I can only hear the Cat back, when the window is rolled down...

can you guys tell me how the flowmaster 80 series is mounted on your cars? is it able to mount in the factory areas or is there any fabrication needed? do you know what exact part numver i need for my car its a 2002 grand am gt i just want to get the right muffler ordered. was/is there any modifications needed to make the stock piping work on this muffler?

mounts right in there where the factory muffler does, same setup.

you would need an adapter of some sort for the different sized inlets...but Advance/pep boys would have that.
