Is an exhaust worth it? Well whats your goal with your car? As far as sound,it all depends on what you go with, theres a lot of options but don't just get one of those coffee cannon style mufflers,or you will sound like crap. If you do an exhaust,do it all. New piping(2.25inch to 2.5) high flow catalytic converter, keep the resonator, then muffler and tip(s) of choice.

look for around 300 bucks for a custom setup. If you do exhaust,do an air intake as well, both together help with power gain, one or the other won't help you much. Better flow in needs better flow out

Cat-back exhaust is a great place to start for performance mods on a 2.4.

It is a little more difficult to find a muffler that sounds good on it though... Borla and Dynomax are the best sounding. Avoid any canister mufflers, or chambered (like Flowmaster)

Wow, you guys are a great help

VanishingImage, why would I keep the resonator?

as far as exhaust on the car, I don't want anything import sounding.

but I want it loud.

and as far as other mods, if I get this done, I plan on a CAI the very same day!

*EDIT*

well I got flowmasters put on, no Res, and a silverline tip, and I think I will go to pep boys to get a CAI right now!

oh and, yeah, it sounds bad ass. not too loud but people look to see me coming.

no resantor= raspiness which sounds like crap,BUT its almost a little unavoidable with a 4cyl engine.

dual exhaust on a 99 GA?? anybody tried it yet and if so how did you go about doing it? another quesion i have...will a cat-back from a 99+ GT work on a 99+ 4cyl(2.4)? ive seen pics in exhaust books and they look identicle with the exception of the muffler layout with the dual outlets.

so you just bought a new muffler?

Dont waste your time at pep boys, for one they dont sell intakes for the GA, let alone a CAI, and two, only ricers buy their performance parts there.

I don't have a resonator. It is only raspy on a cold start (for about first 5-10 minutes) while above 4,000 RPMs. (Using 2 Borla ProXS mufflers) When using a fairly large glass/steel packed muffler, you really shouldn't need a resonator.

a resonater or a glass packed muffler in my eyes are somewhat similar, thats just me,not trying to get into it is or isn't deal with anyone.

I don't have a resonater, but I don't have a muffler either, its just the SRT-4 exhaust. Im going to be buying an inline MagnaFlow muffler though

yeah I bought the exhaust, and I have yet to find a 98 GA intake, anywhere....so I bought the civic intake and fabricated my own, you can actually tell the difference

yeah I didnt get the Res .

It was kinda raspy this morning, but when I came back from work, it sounds good, I like it...

any one around here from OKC?

you got exhuast? How much did you replace? The whole thing? I think im missing something here.

Also, like posted above, ebay is your best shot for a cheap/decent intake. The only CAI on the market is around $300 from induction-dynamics.com everything else is a WAI.

Mark, not enough room for a true dual (each pipe coming from a seperate manifold/header) setup. It's also not possible on your car as you only have one manifold. Unless you mean y-piping it from the manifold or the cat, in which case it's not really worth it. Your best bet is a transverse dual outlet muffler.

:banghead: Ok, I got a Honda civic intake, which cost me, total, tax and all 33.72....so whether or not I have alot to learn....the intake works.

and I felt like I accomplished something by doing it myself..

plus that link you just showed me..after all that...it would been 47- 50 dollars...and it woulda took me 5 days before I got it..

I installed the civic CAI in like 3 hours after purchasing...

oh, and that pic? is that a WAI?

and in as exhaust, I mean cat back, 2.25 inch pipes with a flowmaster...a new cat comes with a new paycheck...I just barely had enough.

which doesn't sound like a ricer at all...its very deep..

and not so annoying.

Did you remove the black box that goes over the TB? or did you just connect it to the end of that?

Yes, that is a picture of a warm air intake, a true CAI (cold air intake) places the filter outside of the engine compartment like in the fender.

I just connected it to the black box, Is OK to remove that? I mean I plan on it now. if its ok..

by all means remove it. It just hurting performance. You will need a way to attach the crankcase vent to the new intake pipe. The ebay ones have that.

is that the tube at the bottom of the box behind the TB?

yea, its the rubber hose that connects to the port on the bottom of the resinator box.
