I was out earlier and coming home I misjudged when I was pulling up and scraped the curb.. I'm so angry with myself right now.. it was like 100,000 grit sandpaper just scraping along the car.. :censored:
I really want her to be pristine for Albany... :(

Looks like some fiberglass and a repaint. BTW 100,000 grit wouldn't do much, 30 grit would be worse, the lower the grit the less grains per inch and the more it'll scrape.

Thats definately something that'll require smoothign and a repaint...

Yeah... it is my own fault though, an to think.. I park by the curb to avoid the sap from the pine trees, and I still manage to damage it in another way.
I'm gonna stop by the bodyshop today after work and see what they have to say. I'm expecting anything from like $100 - $150 realisticly. Probably like 80% of which would be labor.. blaahhh!!

DARN! I was hoping I could get it right out with some scratch-x

Temporary fix - red vinyl bandage

You could smooth it out and paint it or you could try to replace/rebuild the missing area with something and then paint.

It looks small and down low, you might get away with the smoothing and paint.

That spot is so small I'd hit it with some 2500-3000 grit sandpaper and a rattle can matched to your paint code.

Considering the way it is damaged, I would probably use Duraglass to smooth it and remove the flat spot.

Yeah I think its something in the air..

Oh well, i'm going to take it to the bodyshop on Thursday being as thats the first day im gonna be off.. sucks having to work 9:30 - 6.. i'm not off until after the bodyshop closes.
My God daughters father's family is chock full of mechanics.. so maybe even one of them could look at it, if they have a chance?

I just really need it done before the 12th :(

The hardest part of it would be to get the paint faded in to match the rest of it. I'm not talking about getting the color matched, I mean getting it to be a smooth transition from old to new paint.

Thats not to bad as far as its not really in an area where people are gonna notice it right away.

Looks like you could use some new wheel wells too, the little corner pieces for the air dam are busted.

Well, if they're just mechanics, they may not do bodywork. Some guys I know are purely mechanics, and cannot do bodywork. Some are just bodywork guys and cannot turn a wrench in an engine compartment to save their lives (But they can do phenominally at painting and bodywork)

Yes, they are 2 completely different worlds.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it.

I have the exact same thing on my car because my brother in all his stupidity was talking on his cell phone and clipped a curb. Curb-rashed two of my rims and that same piece on the front bumper.

From a distance it's hardly noticeable. Only the real nit-picky are going to notice it. With my I'm personally waiting till I get the SC/T kit because the front lip will hide the scrape. Yeah it's pathetic but what ya going to do about it.

well Ryan would like to fix it because , like many of us, we don't like a little rash like that on our cars, and it just makes it look bad. i'd fix it as soon as i could. but your rims aren't as easy of a fix

Landing Auto Body quoted me at $150, and he could take it immediately. He'd have to sand it an whatnot, and then paint. I was actually kinda interested, and took his card.
Then I stopped at Motion Auto Body. Yeah..... no. He told me he wouldn't even be able to take it until August, and it would be anywhere from $350 - $400. He claimed he'd have to remove the entire bumper, sand it and repaint. How about no? I was like "You have to remove and repaint the entire bumper to fix a 3 inch scuff?" and he was like "Well..... yeah.. There's no cutoff line" or blah balh..whatever that means.
He probably figured he could make a few extra bucks off me, and I wouldn't know the difference being as I'm young an whatnot..

Well, then I had a lightbulb light up in my head.. HEY, i'm an ARTIST. I don't know if this could translate to vehicle painting.. but I figure i'll run to autozone and get one of those more hardcore fixer upper kits.. and if i'm unsatisified i'll take it to Landing Auto Body an have them undo my damage haha. I figure being its so small, in an inconspicuous place I could probably do it myself to a point where it wouldn't be up to their professional level, but being as its small in a relatively un-noticable area I could atleast satisify myself and not have an ugly splotch there.

Okay, so I just got home from Autozone..

I picked up this fixing kit by Dupli-color.. It comes with spot putty, filler primer, clear coat, a 'contoured sanding disc', finishing compound, sanding sheets, and instruction.. and then I got the touch up paint seperate.. called the dealership and confirmed the number for that too.
I'm off the next 2 days, so I should have time to get this finished, being as the paint needs to sit 24 hours an whatnot. This shouldn't be too difficult.. Cost me $22.. much better than $150, or $400... and hey, if I mess up atleast i'll give him a reason to earn his $150.

And it gives you a quick idea of body work. If you want to do more afterwards go to a body shop and ask for any replaced panels to learn on. We were going to do that in school as a section in autos but they gave the stuff to the tech college.

Finished the job today! Total cost of repair = $22. As you can see it's not PERFECT, but for a first try it's not bad! There is a corner of it which i'd like to revisit, but for now I'd say mission accompolished! Definately a complete difference from the first picture!

yea esp. when you get the blackness of the sand under your fingernails....oh it's a PITA to get it out.

GarciaNY

never experienced that...my fingernails are always extremely short, almost to that "bleed when you cut them" stage, lol
