so far only entered 2 comps, so im still learning good techniques and learning what my system hits better to. So far Im up to a 143.5 in a sealed enclosure. Lookin to hit around 145 hopefully. I took 2nd in my class at my last comp and 3rd at the 1st one.

not done yet. he just started last month, currently its gutted, dyanamat is all installed, and i mean EVERYTHING in the car, some of it like the roof, is double layered. you could scream in there and nobody could hear you! the last time i saw it it was under a cover so i dont know what he is doing. he was working on the amp rack, its hexagonal to hold all 6 amps in one, with the glow bulb in the center. it is called his "bass reactor". looks really neat. he is goingt o use part of the audio controller to make a "meltdown mode" with sirens, flashing lights and stuff. the unique part of it all is that everything is not the normal fiberglass or carpet, its all finished wood, like oak or something. has a burlwood dash kit hes even putting in a wood steering wheel.
ill get pics when he starts nearing completion, but he is really taking his time making sure its all put together right.

i used to compete with my GA. my best was also 143.5 with a sealed box.

my system consisted of
-kenwood KDC-9011
-MTX thunder 4300x
-MTX thunder 2300x
-Boston pro series 5.25" components
-two 12" Treo Street series subs

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482117_20_full.jpg

after i hit 143.5 i redid my system and went for SQ with:
-Alpine cda-7995
-MB Quart QSD 5.25 compnents (front/rear)
-JL audio 300/4
-JL audio 500/1
-JL audio 10w6v2 (pair)
-phoenix gold 30 band EQ

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482117_6_full.jpg

now that i have a camaro, i have new plans for this one:
-stock deck with JL audio clean sweep
-Zapco 4 channel amp
-US amps subwoofer amplifier
-dynaudio 6.5" front compnents
-eD 7" subs (already installed)
-12" subwoofer (undecided which one, maybe eclipse aluminum)

Nice Dave. I have wondered what mine would sound like with the subs facing forward, I just always faced them towards the back. Ive heard a lot of good things about Treo. So since you hit the same as me, I take it 143.5 is a good score for a grand am. Hard to keep up with the SUV's and hatch backs sometimes.

car audio dave
07-05-2007, 01:14 AM
yea 143.5 is a tough score. most of the GAs on here hit in the 130s. ive seen a few 141s around. not many above that.

i hit my 143.5 in that sealed box BEFORE the amp was even tuned. also, i hit that on my stock alternator. after that comp my battery died so i got a custom 150amp alternator and the optima yellowtop. the yellowtop was later replaced with a red top.

I only had the box facing forward because i had it sealed off from the trunk. it had more rattles with the subs facing forward. when i had them aimed back it sounded cleaner but the SPL was lower (142 range).

Im on the stock alternator still too, eventually i plan on a 200-260 amp alternator. Im still trying to find the right volume to compete with. I know I can go more than I have been but it's still my daily system I dont wanna blow something for 30 seconds of fun.

JeremiahCoffel

What system do you have, GT? What RMS wattage do you currently have? I'm running a pair of Hypnotic Components on a Splash Neon 302 (55WRMS x 2 into a 4 ohm load) paired with a pair of Hifonics Subs (HF12D4's) hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate P5002 (600WRMS x 1 into a 4 ohm load) in a sealed enclosure. I removed the rear speakers, to reach a little more cabin volume. I'm not getting too high of numbers (I still haven't measured it). I have more of an SQ oriented setup right now, but it's louder than most I have seen done lately. Do you have any videos of you setup?

kicker187
07-05-2007, 02:54 AM
im running a audiobahn amp its 2400 watts at 1 ohm rms, its pretty loud but didn't think it was big enough to compete so i don't know my numbers

GtAudioFreak

Dont have any videos but i could make one, what would you like to see? Heres my list of audio stuff.

Jensen VM9510 in dash motorized HU
Alphasonik PEQ 90 equalizer
Alpine Type R spr-17ls 6.5 components in kick panels
Alphasonik 800 series PCT 5025 5.25" components in the doors
Alphasonik 800 series 6x9's in the back dash.
Alphasonik PMZ 6004 4 channel amplifier 75 Watts x 4 @ 4Ù Stereo
Alphasonik 1000da amp for the subs capable of 2060 wrms at 1 ohm.

JeremiahCoffel
07-05-2007, 05:18 PM
Damn, nice setup. How is Alphasonik? I've been pondering the thoughts of buying some subwoofers, but I haven't seen anyone using them. I was hoping to see the pressure that you are producing. Looks like your box has been wet before? Do your trunk leak? If so, it's most likely the tail light, pull the carpet back from the inner taillight, and see if you have any water sitting. That's what mine did and it ruined one of my boxes after the car sat in 3 days worth of rain.

Pioneer AVIC-D1
HIfonics Zeus XX
12" DB Drive Plats
4.2 cu ft @ 33hz
Hit 141 flat at local meet, box it junk. Going ported this weekend, and 2500D will be coming soon. Audio Freak, you'd prob. get higher numbers w. two subs and going ported instead of three in that small ass box.

GtAudioFreak
07-05-2007, 08:52 PM
Yea but I also like the sound of sealed better and I didn't buy the stuff to just compete, I like how it sounds. Ive thought about building a ported set up for 2 subs and using one box for competing and one for daily use.

Yea somehow I had a leak. But I think it just happened once because it hasnt gotten any worse, I think when i changed over my taillights it stopped leaking. I dunno. Just motivation to get off my but and do a fiberglass set up.

And the box isnt THAT small it more than 3 cubes big. You can't get it out from the trunk you have to tear apart the whole back seat area and pull it out from there to get it out of the car.

GtAudioFreak
07-05-2007, 08:54 PM
Oh yea I like the Alphasoniks they get pretty loud and sound quality is better than most. Ive never heard them ported but they sound good sealed. I had some 600 series woofers before and they sounded really good and hit a 138 just messin around at a stereo shop with 2 subs. Id really like to get a 900 series sub, 2200 watts rms rating.

audiobahn a2300 2400 watts at 1 ohm rms but as dave said thats not what it actually is i'm not an expert or anything but i think its putting out somewhere around 1800 watts

a kicker solox 12" in a ported box

polk audio 4x6 up front and 5 way pioneer 6x9 in the back
with a audiobahn 75x4 amp 2 those

i know its not good to put the amp on the sub box but theres no other place i can see, any suggestions (amp/sub are dusty because they where in storage before i put them in)

GtAudioFreak i see u don't have dynamat on the trunk lid how bad does it rattle without it?

JeremiahCoffel
07-05-2007, 10:53 PM
I've been searching for good prices on this stuff, but everywhere I have found sells at retail prices so far. I'm going to be staying with Hifonics for a while though. I'm getting 4 BXi12D4's from a friend for a good price, so we'll see where that gets me. The only thing I don't like is if I go with all 4 at once, I will have to go sealed, but if I go with 2 I can port them. Kicker, with no dynamat on my trunk, it looks like a whale tail (The spoiler). It's pretty bad, but dynamat isn't the only sound deadener there is, Fatmat is just as good, but less expensive.

GtAudioFreak
07-05-2007, 11:04 PM
I dont have hardly any rattle besides a little from the license plate. If I was ported where I was pushing all that air then it would probably rattle like crazy. Since it doesnt rattle its not really on my top of the list to get done. Trust me if it was rattling Id have some, I hate when rattling is louder than the bass.

You should mount your amp to the back of your back seat. I had a couple of my amps like that. It looks good when you put your seat down and isn't on top of your box.

Jeremiah, if anything Ebay is probably the best but of course don't get much warranty out of ebay stuff. The best place Ive seen, which I found is hit and miss on some brands is onlinecarstereo.com

i was thinking the same thing but the amp is to long to just go on one side i would have to always fold down both seats if i did that.

even with the dyno my trunk lid rattles i have to get more 2 double it up.

GtAudioFreak
07-06-2007, 12:52 AM
Just put them on both, I had an amp bigger than that and thats what I did. Actually it was kinda nice cuz you could just pull both seats down together rather than each individual seat.

Man, how are you running a solo x with an audiobahn amp. Those subs are insane, 1800watts will barely get that thing moving. Id have at least 3k going to it and it would wang. and Audio Im from northeastern Ohio.

the sub is rated for 2500 rms so 3k is 2 much plus i already blew the sub once and had to replace the guts of the sub.

theres lots of dif. ones that are probably just as good but i just decided to go with the original plus(not sure if this is true or not) i heard that dynamat is stickier than most making it easier to install, also the only reason i said dynamat in my previous post is because it's easier to write dynamat than sound deadener.

Hey sorry I forgot to respond to this post. There was 3 other people at the 2nd comp that was at the comp you also competed in. We all hit atleast 2 DB better. You are not trying hard enough if you can only get a 147 out of a 15" alpha.

Tune it around 50 hz and send it 4000 watts burst. You should be able to get over 150, I know I can with the alpha 15.
