ok, need everyone's take on the true HID system.
just list what you have, only REAL HID kits with the ballasts and whatnot. i have heard that McCullough and Phillips make the best ones, and they are around 250 or so.
i want to get the 10000k kit, which is a aqua blue, not as purple. these are gonna be for my aftermarket all clear oem headlights on my 03 GA. Im considering this because it doesnt look like im forkin out the $350 for the projectors after the issues ive heard lol. maybe whem the price drops lol.
but anyway, a company called Pilot makes HIDs on Ebay, and they are around $150 shipped. they are the only ones that dont look cheap (besides mcculigh and phillips of course lol).
so anyway please list the kits you have, and issues if you bought cheap ones. even though i have all clear headlights, the view still kinda sucks cause the chrome inside isnt as good as the oem ones, hopefully this will fix it. attached is a pic of what 10000k looks like. thanks.

Looks good boost21. I have 6000k HIDs and they are real nice, pure white, also wouldnt mind a set of 8000k for a hint of blue, in my opinion 10,000k is a bit too blue but if ya like it, HIDs are great.

thats cool man. but it seems the higher the K number the more color they are. i liked the 12000k cause its almost a purple, but i like bluer better thats why i wanted to get 10000k ones. but its good i talked to you guys about it cause at least i wont jump into it and be dissapointed. thanks!!

theres a scale on the color. i think below 6000K its yellowish (gets more yellow the lower you go) then its white at 6500K (if i rmember correctly) then its blue as you go up.
I had a mecca tune 12000K kit. i bought it used off here, i would have never bought those bulbs, but i also didnt know anything about HIDs what i bought that kit.
before projectors:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482117_274_full.jpg
after projectors (and i know i didnt do it EXACTLY right):
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482117_312_full.jpg
the light output was HORRIBLE with that color. if i do HIDs in my car now id get 6500K and id shop around for a good price with good products.

i have pilot 6000k hids, bought them on ebay $175 shipped. Im very happy w/ them...there is no glare with the black housing headlight because there is a sharp light cutoff point

Crap headlights have the glare IRL, HID's are sweet looking lights.. usually can spot those lights anywhere in a crowd of vehicles.
Don't go with 8000+, the more color you get, the less light output you actually get. 4300 is as close to natural light as possible, best light output. If not those, then 6000 is ok too, I like the pics above for the 6000, but the more blue/purple you go, the crappier they look and less light too.

Personally i like the bluish tint with the 8000K
03graystone
07-09-2007, 05:31 PM
yeah, those photos helped a lot. now i want to go with 6000 or 8000, because you said light output is affected, and thats the only reason i want to do HIDs is for more light output. plus i love seein cars during daylight and still have bright headlights lol. thanks again guys!

How easy was the install, truly?
Where did you mount the ballasts? was it as easy as removing the old bulbs, twisting in the new ones, plugging in the "plug and play" ends, mounting the ballasts, and bingo.. done?

yeah i noticed the black housing lights and all clear lights have bad light output, cause the mirror/chrome in the housing isnt oem quality. since you got the 6000k HIDs, is your light output good? cause with my all clears and simple xenon bulbs i cant see anything at night lol. im hoping the HIDs will clear that up.

Mine was plug and almost play. I had to switch some wires around till it worked. But that was the hardest part. passenger ballasts it tucked beside the coolant resevoir, and drivers next to the battery. I put little sandwich bags around them to keep them from getting wet.

If you look at the picture of mine, that is with the black headlights clear corners. A lot better than regular halogens, that's why i even upgraded to Hids to begin with.

Send me a PM on this kit, is it easy to install and if you have to do anything to your DRL's or wiring harness. Cause I saw the kit from oznium.com on ancona46's grand am and those are the type I want.
Thanks.

cool man, thats awesome. i heard that ballasts get very hot, they wont melt the bags??? its prolly a dumb question but if so your car would be on fire as we speak lol. dont even answer if i sound that dumb haha! :) you guys are great.

the bags arent melted and they've been on since the beginning of summer. So i think they are alright. I check them often to make sure its okay.

Once you put the HIDs do you lose the automatic lights feature? Or will you still have them? And does anyone here know if HIDs are legal in Texas?
GtAudioFreak
07-23-2007, 03:55 PM
You still have automatic lights and sometimes DRL's work too. I think Hids in any car they didnt come in is illegal, but the cops wont say anything, ive had mine for a while now and never get pulled over for them.
Nighthawk243
07-23-2007, 04:17 PM
Hid's are legal as long as the optics are designed for them. For example if you mold BMW headlights into your car, they should be legal. Its less the fact that it is Hid, and more on the Beam pattern.
Usually the police are not quick to pull someone over as much for headlight color due to the fact that there are the superwhite and cool blue sylvania bulbs (Halogen), and their appearance can be decieving. Now, if you drive by a cop, and litterally blind him with a bad beam pattern, he'll pull you over. (Exception being if you use light colors that could be mistaken for Emergency Vehicles... such as deep blue, then its a guarenteed pull over.)
HIDs are not legal in the fluted style headlights due to the fact that those are not designed to be used for HID lighting... the beam pattern scatters and starts blinding other drivers. In projector headlights, however, there is a cutoff on the projectors, which keeps the beam pattern under control.
(Note: State laws and regulations vary from state to state, what may apply in one may not apply to another. I am not responsible if you get pulled over.)
pontiacguy20025
07-23-2007, 10:16 PM
^^^^^thanks for the info. And im not going to blame you. I will blame the company i bought them from. lol.... j/k. If i wanted HID's i'd have to buy projectors just to have the right HID beam pattern? are there any made for the fog lamps?
GtAudioFreak
07-23-2007, 10:22 PM
I think what he is saying is you have to have housings that were already made for Hids. On ebay there is a set of headlights with projectors for our cars. Whether you can use Hids in them or not I have no idea. But they are a little pricey and heard they are a Pain to install.
Nighthawk243
07-23-2007, 10:33 PM
You should be able to use HIDS in those projector lights... again, I am not responsible if you get pulled over.
Generally, most of the HID setups I've seen on vehicles that came with it stock had projector headlights.
pontiacguy20025
07-23-2007, 10:40 PM
Thanks for the info. And yes those projector lights are expensive and they do look difficult to install. I mean if they are that expensive why not make them an easy to install type of item.
woodplock7
07-24-2007, 06:44 PM
so if i bought

and the kit from oznium.com would it be plug and play? would those work well without blinding ppl?
Nighthawk243
07-24-2007, 06:49 PM
Those are basically the stock style housing, except its blacked out.
The stock style housing is meant for halogen.

07-24-2007, 07:04 PM
DAMN! all those lights look really good. I got some aftermarket ones and theyre a good looking blue color, but i would love having some like those!
GtAudioFreak
07-24-2007, 09:09 PM
Yea the aftermarket blue halogens look cool, but once you have Hid's you always look at other cars with Hids to see if they did conversions or not. Atleast I do anyway. You can definitely tell the difference between Hid's and Hid wannabe's.
03graystone
07-25-2007, 12:14 AM
yes GT and thats why i wanna do HIDs. also i drive backroads to work sometimes at night, and i wanna see EVERYTHING lol.
and my theory on the projectors stating you cant use HIDs is maybe because the housing is cheap and will melt. lol i wouldnt be suprised

07-25-2007, 05:31 PM
you have to log out of ebay before you can post a link on the forum for it to work. If they are black inside with the amber corners, they are still nice, and would work perfect. But I personally would just go illegal and go with the clear corners they look better, I think the black with amber just defeats the purpose of new headlights unless you need some anyway and want to stay legal.

ok so can you get the 9007s in a 6000k HID conversion kit that will do the high and low beams that are a good quality? there is a lot of information out there on these and i dont know what/who to trust.
Gagt518
08-28-2007, 01:52 PM
Yes you can get 6000k with high and low beams. I believe Pilot makes them, They are bit expensive but well worth it. I have 8000k HID's form Oznium.com They are awesome and well worth the money but the only thing is they dont have high beams but it dont matter becasue they are so bright you dont even need high beams!
03GAmSE

well thats what i was thinking too but i dont want it to depreciate the resell value. also, my friend did it to his 01 grand am and the check engine light comes on on the automatic light setting but when he turns the lights to "on," it goes away. that would be annoying to me, any comments about that? i was thinking about getting the 6000k's from oznuim.com. i have 8000k bulbs only in it right now and there is such little light, would the 8000k HIDs make that big of a difference even? i just want something that looks good and lights up the road a lot
Gagt518
08-30-2007, 11:59 AM
I have the 8000K Kit from Oznuim.com and it makes the world of difference. You can buy the 6000K ones and they will be even brighter but with a touch of blue tint.I also have the black housing headlights which dimmens the light output a little

Where did you find those and are they hi/lo at all? My left side high beam just blew out on me so now I am definitely ready to buy some HIDs, trying to get a few more opinions. I dont know whether it is worth it to get bi-xenons or just stick with the oznium ones. Still cant tell which ones are going to be true plug and play and not affect DRLs on my 03, anyone?

weird thing is both my high beams now go on sometimes, and sometimes they dont work. but yeah i found the HIDs from Pilot on Ebay, the 6000K 9007 ones. as soon as i get them and install them, i will take pics (ill post a thread)
they are HI/LO ones, but i think in another thread someone told me not to wire up the yellow high beam wire. and like the one guy said your not gonna need high beams anyway with the brightness of HIDs. i have the all clear ebay headlight housings, and my car is an 03.
if you have stock headlight housings, the chrome will reflect better then my cheap China chrome headlights lol
