I was wondering how this Liquid Claybar stuff works compared to a real claybar, and if it works at all, or if it is worth using over a regular calybar?

It's funny how these companies will market products to the public.
- You may as well just use a med. cut rubbing compound, which is what that stuff most likely is.
- If you are looking to reap the benefits that a good clay bar can give you there's only one thing to use- A claybar!:)
What you have there is just a gimmik.

... I actually seen this advertised for the first time tonight ... to be fair, it did intrigue me a little but I figured if I was going to 'do it', I might as well 'do it' with the real thing

How would it possibly work? I dunno it doesn't sense any make to me. Claybar physically lifts the contaminants out and they go into the clay. "Liquid clay bar", how is that going to be any better than soap/water (which clearly is not good enough as a claybar to begin with)?

Yes, what you posted is an actual claybar. If you have a autozone nearby they carry the clay magic kit and its $10.99. Im a fan of it for the price and its the original formulation of claybars.
OK, this is the jist of whats happening.
autowax inc (aka auto magic and clay magic) own the patents to claybars. All company's other than autowax have to buy their clay from autowax. Now these other companys order their clays from autowax in different formulations so they arent all the same. So these other companys are trying to get in better on this market and the only way to do so is to find an alternative that can remove bonded contaminants just like clay without actually being clay. There are quite a few products out there that claim they can do the same thing clay can. Autowax will be losing their patent in 2011 and you will see the cost of clay drop dramaticly and you will also see alot more company's that didnt previously sell clay now sell it.

When you do get the claybar kit, pick up a few more bottles of quick detailer. The one bottle you get will never be enough ;).

Well, I like making several passes... make sure I caught everything.
(Bird droppings take a while to get out... my car is basically Nellis AFB bomb range for the birds.)

I was sold on Claybar the first time I used it!
I used that then washed my car then used some of that ICE wax,car was smooth and any towel I put on it would slide right off.
Sometimes a car just needs a professional buff job though

Ive had quite a few people over the years PM me saying they clayed before they washed and now they have really deep scratches and swirls and wanted to know what they should do now

lol yea really,uhm,DUH!
I do need a really good buff though. My car is by no means a show car so a good wash, claybar, wax, then polish the finish feels awesome but if you look closely you still see marks.
Then again the car is 10 years old now

what, polish doesn't come after waxing?? lol

Polishing is for *removing* minor defects in the paint. If you polish after waxing you will remove the wax.
Nighthawk243

Yep. The wax is a protectant layer. Polishing before removes the defect, the wax layer protects what you just polished.

Careful who you take your car to for exterior paint reconditioning.
This is ussually what happens at high volume shops:

I wouldn't pussy-foot around with that liquid claybar... It would leave me wondering how a liquid can possibly lift off the impurities?
My nephew is a pro auto detailer; he does our fleet of Crown Vic cruisers; also the fire dept officer's cars too; here is one parked in his yard after the claybar treatment. Yes, the chief takes good care of his Crown Vics; has them done in Spring and again in the late Fall. I wish the pic was a bit sharper, but you can see the shine and depth of the color after that claybar.
I had my nephew claybar G.A. for me; wow... I can't tell you the crud that came off. There was a buildup of rail dust; came from parking very close to railroad tracks for a course of a few years. That claybar pulled all that crud out; incredible stuff.
I'm not sure what brand car wax he uses though, but I do know he ordered some stuff in bulk containers from somewhere in Germany. He did tell me though that the Meguire's NXT Tech Wax is pretty good stuff, so that's what I use.

just my $.02 on the liquid clay. After washin the vette I tried it cause Bic got some free at work. Lifted a nice amount of crap off the paint, but, left a weird film. Just stick with regular clay.

do you guys clay the windshield?
Maybe that sounds dumb, but when i wash my car, you know how the water sheets off slowly? well on my windshield the layer of water stays on longer on the "un-wiped" parts (like where the wipers dont wipe). And the part that is "wiped" sheets water off quickly.

Go wild with the claybar. Just don't clay unpainted plastic trim... it leaves white marks. I like the clarity of the windows, headlights and taillamps from using a claybar on them.
