what really is the difference, I mean i know cold air takes cold air from the fender and short ram just replaces the air box. I mean realistically cold air is better, but i was just wondering if it really makes that much of a difference, because its been debated that by the time the cold air reaches the engine its already hot because it travels through the engine bay. Im probably going to purchase a ChromeIntakes CAI from ebay but just wanted ppls opinions on the two. Thanks

A CAI will usually keep the air much colder than a short ram (also called a WAI [warm air intake]) and will deliver more power at higher RPMs. A short ram, however, will make changing the filter much faster (fenderwells can be a bitch to remove and replace again), and will give more power at the lower RPMs. Personally, both can look good (I like the cold air box on the 2000, but when I get my own car I'll probably go with a true CAI). Get whichever one you like, the ChromeIntakes CAI is used and trusted by many members here, and it's where I'll be buying it.

Usually if you get a CAI, definately swap the old filter.

Always use a filter brand you have heard of. I'd get the CAI if those are your only two options, the warm air intakes are prone to heat soak (air is really hot because the engine bay is hot too) which damages performance.
