I just bought a K&N filter and I want to know the best setup for more bottom end torque I like to get up to speed faster now, if i just ran a piece of pipe from my maf like 3 inchs to get it farther away and made a heat shield inclosure would that give me better torque or would a full cia be better I have heard that a cai takes away torque, so i geuss what i really want to know is does the length make any diffrence in the torque

Your idea is the same as the Doctor Speed Cold Air Box, which I have, except that my filter is connected to the maf with the heat shield between the two. According to the site a cold air box gives slightly less high end torque as a cai, but slightly more low end.

Yeah I like low end

Have you removed the ribbed tubing from the tb to the maf yet? If not, I'd say go with a cab style and get two equal length pipes, one to replace the ribbed tubing, and one to go from the maf to the filter, or have the filter attatch directly to the maf (you have to undo the tape on the wires to get the maf to go that far without extending the wires). You would need two couplers to connect everything, and the pipe or coupler would need two holes made, one for the IAT and one for the breather.

What bout moving the screen and also does size of pipeing matter, cuz I have a larger K&N with n adapter to fit my size n i can take it out I tink itll fit all the way to like 4 or 4 and half, also heat shield or no

I'd say heat shield because it blocks some hot air from the engine bay blowing into the filter, but doesn't protect against much radiated heat. It's probably not going to be anywhere as effective as a cai. Did you mean removing the screen? There were two threads recently about it, some say it does something, others disagree. I'd say use piping that is about the diameter of the tb at it's widest point, something like 58mm I think? You can try finding a good medium between the tb and your filter, the couplers should even it out if you have good ones.

The air is still sucked up through the fenderwell with a CAB and is moving fast enough that it doesn't have much time to heat up much more that it would with a CAI.

Yea if you run a aluminum pipe and make a heat shield(air box) it helps keep the engine temp air from getting sucked back into the intake because aluminum releases heat so when the air gets to the filter its a little cooler.

For the most part a WAI with a heat shield or cold air box,is going to be the better part when at the track.

My theory is if you run a CAI at the track on a HOT day, track surface temps are going to be around 120 F or more. If you have a CAI,your going to be sucking in hot air coming off the track surface. The WAI w/heat shield/cold air box is going to be sucking in cooler air.

CAI's are nice if weather is ideal. 30 F to about 75 or so with little humidity because you are sucking in cooler air than whats under the hood.

Well latley its been very hot and humid and THe road I live on the water sits and you hydroplane some so I dont know if the fender would be good

I like the look of a cold air box too, it shows more than just the piping, and I don't have to do any removal of fender wells to get the filter when it's time to clean.
