i tried searching for info on water pumps and all it did was show me every post in the problems section.

but anyway the water pump in my g/fs 95 grand am(2.3 dohc) so we bought a new one and i just put it in. and its not leaking anymore, but its still overheating. now the thermostat worked before we started changing the water pump but now when the car is overheating the radiator is cool to the touch. so i figure its the thermostat, but i was also woundering if maybe there is some way to bleed the system or anything along those lines that might help me out. thank you.

I bet you still have an air bubble in the system. If I recall the procedure correctly, you need to open the coolant neck (top of engine, sticking out the drivers side of the head) while filling it order to bleed the air out.

Next suspect, thermostat. (which is down in the pipe near the waterpump)

Be careful though... Quad 4's don't like being overheated.

With a '94, 13-yrs old, anything is possible.

The radiator core itself could be heavily plugged with mineral build-up.
This will stop coolant flow, and result in a 'cool' radiator, just as well as a faulty t-stat or giant air bubble.

If some coolant is still flowing thru, then a chemical flush like Prestone SuperFlush would be effective.
If there's no flow due to complete obstruction, then a trip to an old-fashioned radiator shop is in order; or a new radiator thru Checker/AutoZone/NAPA.

Good luck,
-Rick

actually all i had to do was bleed the air out of the system. theres a long tube that runs down the back side of the motor that goes to where the upper radiator hose connects. all i had to do was pull that out let it run for a min then put it back in, and everything works great now. thank you to everybody for your advice

Actually they do. The factory service manual has the procedure listed for all install/remove on cooling system components.
