Hey guys i was wondering if you could help me out with the HU in my Fiero. I have a Kenwood kdc-mp5028.
What happened was i was driving down the road listening to my music when i pressed in my cigarette lighter. Now last night i accidentally bent the lighter so when i pushed it in it shorted out the circuit. My HU blinked a couple times then just shut off. I replaced the fuse on the car and checked the fuse on the HU which was good. All the HU does now is very briefly light up when i turn the key on. It makes a really quiet clicking noise while the key is on and the small kenwood triangle in the top right hand corner blinks periodically.
Edit: I have also tried disconnecting the HU then plugging it back in as well as using the Reset button.

Did you check the fuse box under the hood?

there is no fuse box under the hood. Every fuse in the car is good now. I think it may have fried the deck.

I ran into something fun like this recently myself so I thought I post my story here too...
Gear = Panasonic HU, fusion 12 sub, 300w fusion amp
Scenario:
-driving down the road, music is bumpin'
-smell something burning
-pull over to the side of the road
-open the back seat
-where the amp and red power wire meet the amp has melted
-not only that but it's melted part of the board inside the amp
-all my fuses are fine
-took it into the shop that i bought it from
-they dont know what caused it
-wont give me a replacement and they say the warrante with fusion will not cover it
Thanks,
Any thoughts?

bandit have you tried using the reset button??. I do believe there is one on it under the removable face plate. I had a similar prob only the prob was the battery ran dead. I had to reset it before it would work.
{EDIT} just saw that it was a kenwood not a JVC my bad. Maybe it will work though.
Did you by chance power the headunit from the cigarette lighter? Maybe the wire melted?

Jarett, if you create a new thread on the problem you have it'll get answered much faster, as this is about HU problems, not amps melting. And for your problem, it sounds like you didn't have big enough wire for the current running through it.
As for Bandit, if you don't have a warranty left on the HU, try opening it up and seeing if any part of the circuit board is black. If it is, the HU is fried.

Andy you were almost right. The guy i bought the car off of wired it and he wired it to the cig lighter. It was a bad connection thats why the light kept flickering on the HU. Rewired it to the fuse box and all is good. Thank god, didn't want to buy a new HU.
