First I want to thank those who wrote trying to help me with my high rpm problem. Turned out that it was just a problem with a misalligned butterfly valve in the throttle body. Now I just need to find out what the default idle rpms for both park and being in gear are. Any help is once again greatly appreciated!

3.4, so auto tranny.

Well, the engine should idle about 900 cold/700 warm, in gear or not, AC on or not.
Sorry, I don't know the exact rpm, never needed to.

The computer knows what speed the engine should run at under which conditions, and will set/adjust the rpm using the IAC just fine.

There isn't anything you (or any mechanic) can do to adjust the idle.
I guess knowing what the exact values are would give some peace of mind.

For me, if the rpm is about 700 then the IAC and 'puter are doing there job just fine.

Good luck,
-Rick

PS:
Under the hood, near the passenger strut tower/firewall/hood hinge, there are three decals on EVERY car:
1. An Evaporative Emissions Diagram.
2. A serpentine belt diagram.
3. A bunch of text indicating motor type (gasoline), emissions type (cat-controlled), spark plug gap, and idle speed (this decal can be in the center of the hood)
