Alright people, someone help a fellow GAOC'er here. I'll be ripping (or cutting) out my exhaust very soon but I need some recommendations. I've got Pacesetter (armorcoat) on order and the hi-flow cat is taken care of. I'm disappointed to learn about the SLP exhaust being discontinued. I've heard that Monza sucks and is raspy, and borla is too expensive ($700). What system should I go with, or should I have a muffler shop (Midas?) bend me one? If so, what muffler/tips should I get (not what style, what brand)? Any help is really appreciated since I need to do this soon due to a cracked manifold.

Well, after searching hundreds of videos on youtube, I did manage to find one 2.2 with an exhaust system. It's the pacesetter monza system, and IMO doesn't sound nearly as ricey as some of the other ones I've heard. What do you guys think?

Well, it doesnt sound all that ricey.....go with it if thats what you like.
IMO- its got a little too much burble in it, but I bet it woulndt sound half as bad when actually driving/decelerating
You putting in a header?

Yes. My manifold is currently cracked, giving me a nasty exhaust leak. Midas wanted like $350 to have it fixed. For that price I figured I'd just buy the ceramic-coated headers. Less weight, more flow, less heat, etc. I figure since I'm at it I'll do the rest of the system too. It's pretty rusted. The bolts that USED to be on the cat flange look like needles! AFAIK, this was a yankee car and the salt definitely took its toll.

I have no Cat. got to love not having inspections here...lol. Put two 3" high flow rez's in there and custom bent 2 and 1/2" pipe to the back with a Pro-flo V- force camaro muffler. I has a sweet rumble to it. I did it all my self. I'm getting rid of the muffler and adding a flowmaster super 44 and making custom tips.

Header, you have one. I'd love for the price on the 3.4 headers to be as low as the 4cyl, but I can understand that double the materials(almost), double the price.

see if you can get a camaro magnaflow muffler...similar as the flowmaster 80, but magnaflow seems to flow better and sound better. i dont think its been done to a 2.2 yet so youd be a pioneer. (its ok, ive pioneered a few things on grand ams)

Yeah Dave, I'm just not sure about the sound. I've heard some V8 mufflers on 4 cylinders and they're quite raspy. Plus I love the idea about a pre-fab system that I can install myself.
PS - Seems to me like you should be hitting lower than 13.55 with 322 rwhp.

Just curious too, what would a place (such as Midas) charge to bend me a system? And would they carry the split (dual) tail pipes like I want?

You really should be able to delete your own post. That would save jackasses like myself time and effort when we accidently double-post. Instead I'm writing this to save myself.

Here in Florida, you can get dual exhuast piped at Midas for $199 with the muffler/mufflers. Fatter the pipe the more it costs, and if you want something special it costs more (tips, side exits, bends, etc).

I was thinking about putting one of those electric-solenoid-butterfly-valve-Y-pipe-things in front on my cat and just having it exit right behind the front tire...that would be cool

Dont know if this will help, but I once heard a 2.4L with a magnaflow exhaust. Nice and bubbly with not too ricey of a sound. It was a custom setup, with cat and res I believe and it had a single magnaflow muffler. Sounded good to me so thats what id recommend. If RedfireUFO is still on here, ask her, she is the one with the exhaust

RedfireUFO, care to share details about your exhaust? Tried to PM you but your box is full. Thanks.
