Alright, I painted the interior peices of my car about a year ago. I did the main dash peice, the shift-boot-holder-thingy (great lingo, eh?) and some of the door panel peices.

Let's just say, i messed up. The dash peice has cracked, and flaked, and it's just a mess. Looks great from adistance, but when you get up close, it looks like junk.

My question is, does anyone know where i can buy the interior peices? just the main removable dash peice, the door-panel peice, the windsheild defroster peice, and a few other small peices?

would my best bet be to go to a junk yard?

Or is it possible for me to just sand the paint off? i know it just rubs off the dash peice, pretty easiyl, but will that permanently damage the peices? Paint thinner? lol anything! i'd rather just clean them up and make them look like normal, then repaint them, but if everyone thinks its a better idea to just buy new ones, then i'll go for that..

alright..

Junkyard, dealership if you want to pay more for a new product (check www.gmpartsdirect after you get the number from the dealer).

I'd say to just sand the parts, unless the crack is a physical one and can't be filled with body filler or fiberglass. If you decide to sand them, use a low-grit sandpaper (200 or so should work, don't want to sand too much off) and remember to make sure your color and clear are matching brands. Spray about 3 coats of color (not too thick, not too thin, make sure to wait until the paint is tacky before adding the next coat), and then spray some clear on (the more layers of clear, the smoother and shinier it'll be).

Thanks Cody and Derek for your replies...i think i'm just going to sand them down and re-do it...the right way!

You don't even need the part # from the dealer. You can browse the catalogue on the site.

Anyways, as said, try a junkyard, dealer, or GM parts direct. You can also see if ebay has anything too.

Your cheapest and quickest bet is a junkyard... theres usually Grand Am's EVERYWHERE, so it shouldn't be too hard to get the parts.

The catalog doesn't usually work for me, but I guess that's because it doesn't know that "rubber thingy by the foglight" means the same as "fog light deflector" lol. I'd still check with the dealer, sometimes by the time shipping is calculated from GM parts direct you're better off getting the part from the dealer. Especially with my discount of 10% over cost.

Since I wasn't thinking, and I can't edit my post, 200 is probably way too course to use for the plastic, I'd try around 1000 or so come to think of it.
