So I need some help...

I just fell into some money due to a car accident (my old car got t-boned at an intersection). I got a check for around $5000 and have been looking at things to do to the car...

I figured I could go with the CAI, Exhaust system, PCU, and a few other small things...

But I want to know what you all would do with the money to your cars? Could I afford a Supercharger and a better transmission to support that supercharger? If so would I have money left over for other things?

Anyways... lemme know what you would do with 5 Grand to a stock 03' 3400 SE?... performance wise of course...

Sounds like you've got some good ideas and plans already. Good ideas. If money permits, I'd personally go with the supercharger, too. I think it's just too cool to have any form of forced air induction on what is generally considered just a sporty looking family car.

Ported heads and ported intake (both upper and lower) from the 60degreev6.com store certainly wouldn't hurt you, either. Of course, you could also do a 3500 top end swap, which is also cool. Someone on GAownersclub.com has done this, but I forget who. You might check out that 60degreev6 store for some more ideas.

Good luck, and be sure and keep us updated.

id do the super charger listed above, exhaust, pcm, and get an sc/t kit... that would put you right around the 5000 bucks (and i would think that would be painted too)

Are you gonna fix the car yourself? I thought that $$ was for repairs

My Pontiac is perfectly fine... it was my Grand Prix that I wrecked awhile back, which I just got the settlement check from.

So yeah... I have $5000 to spend on the car.

Grand Am stats:

2003 Pontiac Grand Am SE
Completely Stock 3.4L V6
80*** miles

Ideas:

I will probably go with a Supercharger of course... but everyone is requesting PCM and Ported heads and the like, but isn't a stronger transmission needed to support that supercharger? I would think so.

So I figured the Supercharger and Trans would be about 5000 all together if not more. Thats including Labor. (Not sure on prices)

If you spend wisely you could have a serious setup with that kind of money. If you're not worried about a lot of custom work I would go with a turbo, mainly because it's cheaper for our cars, and you'll see the same performance gains. You could also pretty much rebuild the engine from the bottom up. New pistons, heads, intake manifolds, high performance cam, beefed up tranny, and probably more.

yes you would need a better tranny to hold the s/c or turbo, s/c im lookin into because i drag race and watching my buddy with his GN sit and build up boost before he launches doesn't make my grand am cool, turbo is just as good though.

Tranny stuff look up and talk to Gectek, he is the man for that stuff, he might be able to get you a decent tranny built for around 2k or so, but it will hold up to some decent abuse from a boosted application.

The stock Tranny is strong enough to handle the SC. If you plan on making more power then yea you will need to beef it up some.

This topic on the tranny and it being strong enough has been covered before. It is strong enough, just don't do stupid things with it like neutral dropping or anything like that.

5000 will get you a SC and a custom exhaust setup to help get that extra power.
