I do not know how we will top this year next year, but we topped last year this year :) So as time get closer I would like to see people submit ideas on what we can do to out do ourselves :D

I heard some people talking about a name tag with both their real name and screen name on it. good idea.

so if other people want to spit out some thoughts let us know :thumbup2:

I'll put a recommendation of having FRS radios. I led a caravan of like 11 or 12 cars and the only ones who had radios or had them on were me and my girlfriend.

Yeah, in my opinion a couple of the convoys ended up becoming a bit of a clusterf**k, mostly due to construction. But for example, the way back from LVD, I don't know how many people in the group knew how to get back. Eventually Jason and I got ahead and got everyone to the highway and it was pie from there. But the problem was that we had to call around for peoples' phone numbers. Jason's phone was in roaming, and he only had the number for the guy in front of us, not the lead car I think. So after a few failed attempts at making the phone call, we got it settled.

For next year, the only way I think we can top it is to:

-Make sure more people get directions. A couple people I guess didn't think to ask for them and a lot of people relied solely on playing follow the leader.
-Maybe more use of radios. It's a relatively safe, and very convenient way of communicating across the convoy and it's more legal than text messaging or dialing on a cell phone while driving.
-More people harassing me to wear sunblock (or a female offering to apply it for me) because I got JACKED up by sunburn.

Another problem I know a few people had were forgetting to bring car cell phone chargers and their phones dying.

I know this isn't really an overall suggestion to improve the actual event, but I think that reminding attendees to come prepared can make everything safer and more fun, as well as less stressful. Wrong turns, getting lost, making U-turns on busy streets, etc. can be dangerous.

Everything else though I think was great. The more we do this event, the closer everyone becomes and better they get to know each other, which makes each year bigger, better, and more fun than the last.

For the record, I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass; I had the time of my life up there, and would like to see more people getting involved and coming prepared next year.

1. More solo cups so we can cover the sprinklers!

Nametags definately, atleast for the first day or something
I like the radio idea, I need to pick one up for next year, that'll help with directions and whatnot.

I thought the bowling was a great idea, unfortunately we just.. were tired and didnt get to it. Time is also quite limited, but its great!

Bouchie11982

maybe make bowling night on the night of arrivals...??that way were aren't exhausted from that days activity?
as for directions. maybe put directions from the track to the hotel. and the same with thatcher park for some people that just aren't familiar with reversing the directions....
that is all i can think of until the ECM meet

I thought the directions and stuff were in the bag?? I didn't look.. but they were in years past

kate the night of arrivals is for meet and greets not bowling. if there are late comers they might not even find the boweling alley

Am I your girlfriend now, that's just not right, lol. But yeah I too had my FRS radios and it saved me from following everyone else. Another thing would be to have a designated channel widely announced.

Directions were printed in the information packets.

We always suggest the radios, I should have made a post about a week prior to the even tto remind people again.

Get married. My wife is the one who puts my sunblock on for me. :)

Not everyone got them or knew to ask for them. Unless I'm the only one that didn't think to ask for it.. hell, I didn't even have a car this year, so I guess it wasn't required that I got all that information and stuff. But fortunately, everything worked out for everyone. (Except possibly Jason, his taillight got run over, and as I understand it tonight, his battery might have crapped out on him too.)

No biggie. It all worked out. There's always next year.

I've got my whole life ahead of me!!

Just kidding.. I almost brought a girl or two up with me, as that was originally part of the plan, but plans change. Maybe next year I'll have more of a social life and will bring a friend.

I've been to all five years of this meet and we have tried the name tags, and it really doesn't do much. I guess it might be different being someone new to the meet, but after a meet or two you start to know who everyone is.

All good suggestions, but most have already been done. :) We did the name tags in 2004, and they were only worn for about 30 minutes, then people started rippin' them off. With all the expense of making them, it just wasn't worth doing it again. FRS radios are a must, and directions were in the goodie bags. :) However I agree, the channel # should have been announced better.

The caravans always get broken up after the park and thatcher, but this year on the way to those events it was a little broken up as well. Not much we can do about it, since the police won't give us an escort. :(

Riley1123d
07-16-2007, 08:39 AM
A police escort is a great idea!
..Though I take it we've tried getting that before? (to no avail?)

Bouchie11982

we shoulda gotten the name of that first cop that showed up saturday night, he was a cool guy! he could be our escort next year :)

Yeah, we tried for 2003 and 2004, and the cops just laughed. So we shrugged and had Seth block traffic. :D

Just like in 05, I had a blast, and nothing needs to be changed... if you cant keep up with the convoy, get a faster car :)

Exe room is a continued must as I need somewhere to get drunk, be loud, make everyone laugh and call people's moms mad late forgetting to *67 the call so she could call me back at any time... :)

That is kind of a neat idea.

And I'm kind of against the police escort. More fun being able to blast down the highway as a convoy than worry about getting the whole group in trouble because we invited the po-po along and someone wasn't on their best behavior..

There needs to be some rules set up for being out in the parking lot as well for next year. I dont want to be a jerk about it but it is just common respect for others and area.

A certain time NO RADIOS IN CARS ON AT ALL.......10pm seems decent time. we are not the only ones in the hotel.

BEER CAPS NEED TO BE PUT IN A TRASHCAN. not all over the ground.

We need to keep ALL the stuff we bring out in one area and NOT put under other peoples cars.

And finally......MY PARKING SPOT IS FOR MY CAR!!!!!!!

FRS or Family Radios Service radios are compact, handheld, wireless 2-way radios that provide very good clarity over a relatively short range. FRS radios operate on any of 14 dedicated channels (1-14) designated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) expressly for FRS radio usage. In order to comply with FCC standards, FRS radios have a maximum allowable power of 0.5 milliwatts (or 1/2 watt). FRS radio tranceivers and their antennas may not be modified to extend their range.

GMRS or General Mobile Radio Service radios operate on any of up to 8 dedicated channels (15-22) designated by the FCC. GMRS radios typically have power ratings of 1.0 to 5.0 watts and have a maximum allowable power of 50 watts.

GMRS radios are very similar to FRS radios, except for a few important distinctions:
1) GMRS radio use requires you to purchase an FCC operator’s license.
2) GMRS radios generally achieve greater ranges than FRS radios.
3) While FRS radios may not legally be altered, GMRS radios may legally be outfitted or retrofitted with optional antennas, car antennas or home antennas to extend their range. For more information, please visit the FCC online at FCC.gov. Note: Some GMRS radios (those with non-detachable antennas) will not accommodate antenna alterations. If you intend to alter your GMRS radio, please take care to choose a radio with a detachable-style antenna that accommodates your needs.

Ruby Tuesdays had separate checks for each person when I was there. They even included the tip.

the only problem with a thursday night pizza is people showing up late

Big Joe

Its pretty basic stuff. If you show up late for something expect to miss out on a thing or two.

Eating as a group is fine and all, but we tried it Saturday and some people didn't want to wait it out for a large table to open so they just started getting smaller tables. I would have rather waited and sat with everyone but it didn't work out that way.

It wasn't that we didn't want to wait, it's that it was going to be an hour wait and it was already late for dinner.

exactly. and they could only seat 4 people and that waiting time was 10-15 minutes

... yes, but if we had it organized, we would have it arranged so they were expecting a group of 30 (or whatever :D)

... I am not sure they take reservations IIRC, but, they might make an exception for so many people ... who knows ... even if we went someplace else, I think a 'group thing' would be more fun than a bunch of little 'clique' type gatherings, you know what I mean? :)

I hate the stupid group gratuity thing, and it isn't helping them when it comes to me. If I get service I usually tip more then 15-18%, and if its a nice waitress, then much more. But if they are going to make gratuity required, well then I don't give anymore then what they put on the bill.

That's fairly standard with large groups. Personally I prefer it included, otherwise it only takes a few cheap asses at your table to turn your bill + 20% tip into "we're still short."

Yeah, I guess I see your point as well. I had never really considered how it would help in a situation where everyone is throwing cash on the table. And I know it's standard, I see it at every resturant I go to. I just dislike the concept of making gratuity mandatory because it takes away what it is really supposed to be for.
