Hi, i just recently bought a radar detector and im sorry if this is in the wrong thread but this fitted this question under this section. I bought one and how you hook up the radar detector to the cigarette lighter and then runs up to the window. Is there any way I could install it so I dont have to see that much wire. That wire gets in my way, and bugs me.

Well I personally have the Passport 8500 X50 and they make a hardwire kit for it, It goes from the fusebox, under the dash carpet then to my radar. If you bought a high end radar detector they should have a hard wire kit for it on their website, they normally are not too expensive...

If the wire is long enough or if u can ge an extention for it run it up behind the dash and the window pillar.

What I did was add an Auxilary 12V plug behind my console (Out of sight, and it allows me to use my cigarette lighter still :)), and plugged a walmart special extention cord into it. I ran that extention cord behind the dash and up to where the front pillar is on the driver side. After mounting the end of that there with a zip tie, I plugged the 12v plug for the detector into it. I tucked the cord for the detector inside that window pillar, and then ran it inside the headliner. I pulled the tad bit of cord i needed for plugging the detector in out of the headliner and plugged it into the detector mounted near the mirror. You can also run it up through the HVAC vent for the window defroster if you have it mounted low.
