-hey all, im at the point where i can do a little upgrading with my system. as you can see in my profile, i have infinity reference speakers throughout. would it be worth amping my 5.25s and 6x9s. to avoid distortion i have my deck filter at 80hz which is above both of what these speakers can handle. looking on ebay i found a hifonics titan 4ch for around $150 shipped. or i saw a lanzar viberantmmon woofersetc for like 120
-i wouldnt need much wiring, only 2 RCAs, got somethin i can use for turnon, and a short power and ground that i can run to the distro block on my capacitor.
what's your opinion. i am open to other brands for amps as well the hifonics was merely an example and somewhere to start.
-cuz like my deck does 22RMS and my doors are 45 i belieive and my 6x9s are like 100RMS so they both are being underpowered by half to 80%.
-so ya any input would be awesome. i guess im just looking to balance out the sound and get the best out of the stuff i have.
thanks in advance guys

I've tried various configurations over the years. I've come to the conclusion that it is only worth amping front components. It isn't worth amping coaxials and triaxials. Don't amp the rear fill... fade it down.

this really depends on the person. Personally i think it is worth it to amp your speakers whether they are components or coaxials. i put a small amp on my old rockford 4x6's and alpine 6x9's and it made a world of difference. and i was only putting 40w to them. and i like my rear fill so i've always put an amp on my rears as well. just don't make them put out more then the front is all.

i amp them all so i can use the sub with low pass and all my speakers on high pass to me it sounds much cleaner off the amp

i only amp the front stage, just because of sound imaging, i do have rear speaker but they are more for show than anything and are ran off the headunit, so they have lower power compared to the front stage and its nice to have when watching movies or longer trips where u have someone in the back seats, just my two cents! Also amping up any componet set makes a huge difference in SQ, and the amp also gives added features for tunning and keeps ur music audible with heavy bass !

i kinda disagree with dont amp coaxials but iv heard from many ppl and first hand what amping can do.
ok my 5.25s take 45 rms and my 6x9s are 100rms. should i look for a 100+rms amp or like 75ish? and im going more for sound quality with the speakers so a good brand that way. any ideas are welcomed guys :)

the diffrence between 45 rms and 100 rms is only a few decibles, and i dont think you want to over power the hell out of your 5 and a quaters. get a nice 50x4 amp, besides, they dont make many 100x4 and they are expensive as shit and probably shity quality.

well id just turn down the gain to help out the 5.25s. but like does anyone know much about the Hifoncs Titan series of amps? like i know enough about amps but like somethings are a little foggy.

why not just upgrade your HU to give you a higher RMS?
cardude007617

cuz that wouldnt do it and would also cost more. besides, i have a brand new 2007 model year hu anyways

It may be because head units that are on the market now are only 50 X 4 watts per channel for the most part, which is only putting out 18 to 22 watts RMS per channel, which is not great. Especially when compared to what an Amp can do for sound quality.

right so even with my high pass filter on i still get a lil distotion when i turn it up. be it, its hardly anything but like i can tell i need more power to really get the most out of these speakers. my speakers dont even move haha

There are MANY very high quality 4 channel amps out there that put out 100wattsx4 @ 4 ohms. Expensive, yes, poor quality, far from it!
High quality high power 4 channel amps are generally used on active setups.

50Watt RMS Should be fine. Dont need to go bigger.

but dont they reccomend that u power speakers like 75-80% of what their RMS is? this would only be half for my 6x9s. btw, im one that likes the 4 channels, like im not a front stage only type person. i like it all. change anything from what u said?

If you are gently on the gain, you can do 75 or even 100. Just know what you are doing, dont crank the gain for more sound. The roommates lebaron currently has 40Watt rms speakers with 125watt rms amp. Just set it correctly.

ya. i got a 1200rms x1 amp for my 2 350rms (underrated may i add too) subs. i got the gain in a good spot so they dont clip and distort. either way, im constantly listening for distortion. i think ill go for the bigger one to push my 6x9s better. im pretty sure my 4 gauge can handle it too. im prbly only gettin about 800 out of the subs with a class D amp, and i can add another 300 and still be safe

If you look, the RMS on your 6x9's probably isnt just 100, its probably 10-100rms. Check the website/box you got it from, speakers like that usually have a range, not a set amount. At least mine are.

ok so what should i get. the 55rms or or the 85 rms one
SpartanGrandAM
07-18-2007, 08:39 AM
you will not tell a major diffrence between 85 and 55 rms. definatly not one worth alot of money. go with a good quality 55rms for a good price.

07-18-2007, 11:54 AM
ah ok. see here are the 2 i am between i suppose:
1. Hifonics TXi 4406 55rms ~$134
2. Hifonics TXi 6406 85rms ~$150
the price difference really isnt much on ebay or other online store.
anyone see these for less than that?

85 will be over powering your front speakers. idk if thats good for them or not.
cardude007617
07-18-2007, 01:42 PM
id imagine it wouldnt be. wouldnt setting the gain correctly compensate for that?
SpartanGrandAM
07-18-2007, 04:02 PM
i suppose so, i guess just set the gain for the front so that you don't hear any distortion and such and you will be ok. good luck

that doesnt sound very postive man, is that not how gain works really?

over powering the speakers a bit is just fine. if you get an amp that puts out a bit more power then you will be setting the gain lower and not putting as much stress on the amp. I would get the 85w amp, it's only 16 bucks more and if you set the gains right you won't have any problems with it.

ok, i think i agree with getting the bigger amp.
now any reccomendations on amps? i like the ones mentioned earlier, but any more options?

i noticed something the other day. my amp kit's fuse is 100amp, and the fuse on my sub amp is 80. so my question is, most of the 4ch amps im lookin at have fuses that range from 50-70 amps. now i won't be running any of this stuff on it's highest output. am i safe with the 4 gauge i got now? or can i forget the upgrade to amp my speakers?
