I have a 96 Grand Am that I bought used. There was no owners manual in the car. It has some power system on the door locks that lock the doors when I start the car and unlocks all 4 doors when I shut it down. Now my question: Did this car come with a remote lock transmitter? If so how could I get a replacement remote? Could I get one from any GM dealer or have to go to a Pontiac dealer? Closest Pontiac dealer is 30 miles away, Got a Chevy and Cadillac dealer about 3 miles away.

my moms 96 SE has the auto locks and its standard and has no OEM keyless entry system. Some aftermarket alarms or remote starts have whats called ignition contolled door locks so if their is an aftermarket unit installed this may also be triggering your door locks. Best bet is to first find out if it has an aftermarket unit installed. if it does you can probably get a replacement transmitter. After that, I'd imagine any GM dealership should be able to look up the VIN and see if it had an OEM keyless entry.
