I was at Harry's yesterday. There was alot of 5th Gens there. But it was a completely different group of cars. None of the 5th gen that were there last time were left anymore. There were even a bunch of different 4th gens. I wanted to go back to a white gt that i remembered from last time but it was gone. There was 2 fiero's there Seth. Doubt they'll still be around by the time we go back.

They rotate stock pretty fast, but not that fast. I'd estimate quarterly, back when I was a yard rat and used to go at least once a month on the way home from college.

In other words, I think I'm gonna skip the October trip in favor of either a mod day and/or camping.

Not to sure what I'm going to do this time around. Your house is actually farther then the yard itself for me I think. But it dose make it simpler meeting up with you guys first. SO I donno what I will do.

 ok yeah guess its not that much different but I'm not making the trip at 2 in the morning again. Cops with laser and nothing to do at night on the Jersey Turnpike :nervous: Plus I was pretty tired the rest of the next day due to my 4 hours of sleep. Paul might be shooting down from Boston so I might ride with him or vice versa. We'll see what happens.

Big Joe
09-27-2007, 10:11 PM
I'd personally rather go back to Hazleton, but if everyone else wants to check out Pennsburg then so be it. Anyone ever think of hitting up both? Saturday for one and Sunday the other

We could stay at Gregs Friday Hit up Pennsburg, then proceed to Matts place, stay there saturday and hit up Hazleton Sunday. If that would be ok with Matt and his parents of course.

Matt95GT

3rd weekend in October would still be best for me. I don't really care which yard.

Me and Seth thought of an interesting concept... hit the yard on sat, then in the evening chill at a campsite. Hickory run state park (where I frequently go) is only 30 min from Hazleton. Just checked... all the good sites are still open that weekend, which means showers. Not sure how much that appeals to everyone, but I'd love to drive right there (shorter than drive back to my parents), grab a quick shower, and cook some hot dogs and brats around a campfire. Just an idea... the site is on me, and I have more than enough gear to fit everyone.

Yup... tent sites, drive car right into site. (car camping)

This is the kinda action I'm talking about...

Like I said... I have tons of equipment (tents, stove, grill, cookware, tarps, lanterns, etc) All everyone would need is a sleeping bag.

No, it won't be any different than usual. The sales to avoid... the $20 admission and all parts are $1 days... that's when it's packed.

You're not going to find anything that new... if you do, won't be worth taking. A good VQ would surely go to Kress (their auto recycling parts biz) before ending up in the yards.

*bump*

I have 2 camp sites reserved now... will give us more space and they can't bust our balls for having more than the limit of 5 people per site. Also helps for parking situation... I would recommend people carpool when possible for 2 reasons:
1. Your call will not be clean afterwards... it is guaranteed to be filled with pieces of leaves/twigs and the roads are dirt/gravel.
2. One car per site is included... it's $3 per extra car, otherwise gotta use the "extra car parking" spots nearby. Yes, they actually do check if you paid. (If I can find one of my old "extra car pass" forms, I might have a ghetto-solution)

Campsite map (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickoryrun/hickoryrun_camp.pdf)
Overview map of whole park (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickoryrun/hickoryrun_mini.pdf)
Hickory Run state park general site (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickoryrun.aspx)

We have sites 077 and 124, which are back-to-back. Unfortunately the baller/huge sites (like 94) are taken, and so are my other frequent ones. But, we're still closest to the 'nicest' bathroom, the 2 sites are open to each other, and all the surrounding sites are vacant right now.

I'll post more info, directions, etc next week.

RickHigginsHtbr

sweet, are there grilles there or no? Still have not christened my Hummer Grille :)

There's a fire ring with integrated grill rack, but it's not something I usually use. I always bring my small grill and camp stove.
http://www.fazeshift.org/pics/albums/userpics/08-13-04/normal_DCP05471.JPG
As you can see, that one doesn't look so great, but they have all been replaced since then.

Otherwise, each site has a picnic table, and pole w/ hook (I use for hanging lantern)... that's about it.

Mine isn't completely broken, but the rubber in the mount has seen better days. Actually if I can find one, once I fill it with poly and swap with the one on the car, you can have the other. Although... I haven't cross-referenced the Getrag vs Isuzu mounts... could be different. Never seen a Getrag 3rd-gen in a yard, ever. (well, except my old 94 when it was towed there)

Werd.

fireworks and vodka.... sounds like a great night.

As much of a fan as I am of that, not a good idea at a state park. Fireworks... no go there... trees in the way. Alcohol isn't allowed... so gotta pre-mix your drinks (E.g., vodka + 20oz 7up) or fill an empty soda/juice container with hard stuff of choice to mix with whatever. (in the past... generic Sprite 2L = vodka, apple juice = captain, root beer = captain tattoo, etc) No beer... too obvious. Plan on park rangers dropping by at least once... they have every time I've been with a group of 4 or more.

Yea, I took off. Mod/repair day in the morning/afternoon at my parents, think we'll make a quick food shopping run when Seth gets there.

Hmm, there's the usual sporting good chains (Dicks, etc) or I'll see if the Army/Navy store my brother works at has them in stock.

In short, I skipped wearing sandals there once. 2 days later I had this black stuff growing under each of my toenails... took a few months and various fungi creams to get rid of it. Won't make that mistake again.

Also, if you guys do want to crash after, please call when you're on your way so I know... and please keep quiet when you arrive. In other words, don't wake my parents up at 2am or I won't be able to have everyone crash there next time ;)

We'll convoy from my parents to Harry's in the morning, but in case anyone gets split off from the group heading for the camp grounds...
-Get on I-81 North
-From I-81 N, take I-80 EAST exit
-From I-80, take exit 274 for PA-534 EAST
-Once on 534 E, you'll pass some golf places, houses, etc. Eventually you'll come to a stop sign, you can only go a real hard left or hard right. Make a left, to continue on rt 534.
-This road goes for a long time. (rt 534) Along the way, you'll pass the Hickory Run main office. Keep going on the twisty road. Eventually you'll see some access roads and hiking trails.
-Look for a small wooden sign that says "camping -->". Make a right into the campground entrance. Just go past the office booth, guests don't need to 'check in.' Continue straight on the camp road (past the store).
-You'll pass three site coves on your left. After the 3rd, look for an old brown bathroom building next to the main road. There's actually an entrance next to it, make a left and go in there. Site 77 will be on your left a few hundred feet in.

Matt95GT

For anyone coming camping later (not from Harry's)

From the PA turnpike Northeast Ext.(476):

-The exit is the second north from the Lehigh Valley, 1 from Mahoning Valley. It is the exit right after the rest area going up the mountain. (I think the exit is called "Mt. Pocono") You'll see signs for the I-80 junction.

-After the toll booth, there's a light. (by Arby's) Make a right, onto rt 940. You'll be passing through the woods for a few miles.

-Make a left at the old gas station on the corner, onto rt 534. Now you'll pass truck stops and over I-80. Continue on this road. (you'll pass some golf places, houses, etc.)

-Eventually you'll come to a stop sign, you can only go a real hard left or hard right. Make a left, to continue on rt 534.
