Stupid question here, but I cannot find the answer by searching.

What is the RPO code for the 4-speed automatic mated to the LD9 TWINCAM engine?

I am doing research a possible swap into my Fiero and need this info.
And if you have a link that has details on the tranny it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think I may have found what I needed. Looks like the tranny used on this motor is the 4T40-E.

In the 95 GA SE it is a 4T60E. Why would they go to a lighter transmission in the newer cars?

honesty its not a good transmission shifts very hard for an automatic. 1 of the reasons ive been working on my 5-speed swap.

I bet cost has a lot to do with it.

I love it when an automatic shifts hard,if you can't feel it it feels wussy(to me anyways).

A lighter transmission is always the better way to go anyways. Lighter sometimes helps saves money like Matt said

agreed about liking the hard shift but thats not the point to an automatic. They are supposed to feel wussy

Its actually a 4T60E in Grand Ams.

M13 is the actual RPO

The 4T40E came in Sunfires.

whatever it is, shoudl swap to a getrag. Its the only trans worth mating to this engine.

I would know, I a`sploded an izusu already :_:

Oh for the love of crap dude... why didnt I know this?! I WASTED 500bux on a 50k mile izusu from a sunflower when I COULD have ganked one from a jappo izusu instead and then had me one hell of a transmission WITH LOWER GEAR RATIOS! IO#()*&%*($&Y(F&(#H$&Y*(E D$GF$ HF uy4 9

I think Im going to go hang myself with the serp. belt from my car, k?

EDIT: For the record, I ALWAYS blamed GM for these miserable transmissions.

You don't really want lower gear ratios... unless highway cruising at low RPM is your A1 priority. Point is, Getrag's aren't always the answer.

OT :: I drive 90% highway. 101 to the 202 to the I-10 -- 60 west to the I-10. 101 to the 60 to the I-10. And so on.

Most of the phoenix metro area is highways/freeways of some sort with a 55+ speed limit. And even then, surface roads are a grid of 1 mile square roads, 45mph is the limit and the lights are timed for 45-50 mph, meaning that if you go through one green light at 45-50mph, you can continue down that same road for as long as it exists, getting (usually) nothing but green lights.

I wonder if anyone has a junked storm or elsewise laying around ...
