So now I know I want me some Dynomax Super Turbo single-in dual-out, 2.25'' all around muffler (if tha tis possible, havent looked yet)
I also want a cheapo cat, since my old one is 120k mi old and probably clogged up. My droppy dual mufflers need to go - ones got a pinhole and the other is just rusty like the rest of the underbody.

I figure get a local shop to do 2.25'' stainless pressure bent piping, make up a custom mount for the transverse muffler, grab a cheap 2.25'' hi-flow cat or something, and use some cheapo quad tips, nothing fancy, probably straight-cut - something that'll fit in the stock bumper locations.

I also need a new donut gasket since the old one blew out completely (thats why I'm replacing it all, might as well take this time to do it right)

I've got a few problems, I need to keep it as cheap as possible, and I need to find a reputable shop here in the phoenix-metro area. (Rick and Troy hopefully know something about this)

You guys think I can get this all done for less than 400bux? (no pun intended, really)

AZJbo and quad4 has like nothing on this, all the local guys I know are at work right now, so I hope someone that lies in/around phoenix knows of a good place.

never really heard of anyone doing that kind of set up on a 96-98 GA, so i'm not really sure if it would fit. would be interesting to see it once its done tho.

I've seen single-in dual-out done on a 96-98 already. BobGAGT had this done in a traverse-mount manner, like the 99+. Clearance could be an issue that way though, so the shop must be willing and creative.

I've also see it mounted where the driver side muffler was, with a pipe making a 90 degree right, run behind the lip of the bumper, and another 90 to tips on the passenger side.

The 3 shops I went to were not in the mood to get creative or something, all 3 said there was 'no way' to mount a single-in dual-out transversely. So I said 'forget it' and just replace the flex pipe and cat with 2.25'' piping (and a 2.25'' magnaflow 'high flow' cat) - Ill leave the cat-back piping alone until I find someone that is willing to get it done right, with the exact parts I specify (Ill probably end up just purchasing the parts and then finding another shop, but for now I like the slight increase in sound that the new cat and flex pipe has brought about).

Or just get 2 mufflers... any shop should be able to do a Y-pipe setup using the stock setup as an example.

There was nothing real creative to having my FlowMaster 80 series muffler installed. Fitment wasn't even an issue either. Hell, find a pic of someones setup, take the picture in,might help them get it pictured in their own heads.

Hey,
Hopefully I am not too late with this, I haven't had much of chance to get on here lately. I think if I understand you right, you are trying to get pretty close to the same setup as I have and just took some pics for ya. It's really not that hard to set up. The shop I went to said it couldnt be done at first, then I took pics in and had them put my car on the lift and take a look at the options and measured it out and it came out fine. As for clearance with Intrax springs I have never scraped the muffler. So good luck and I hope you can get that done!

oh wow thats a bit close, I worked with a new shop and I got a single-in dual-out mangaflow mounted where the stock muffler was on the driverside, the dual outputs are both situated on the same side, so the 2 pipes come out and one runs straight back to the driverside cutout and one runs 2 90 deg bends over to the pass cutout. Its pretty sweet, hopefully I can get a camera to post some pics this week :D
