How do you out do push your marque car's sales even harder? Introduce a new motor. For 2008 the Corvette will come with a larger and more powerful base engine, the LS3. The 6.2 liter, LS3 Y8 in the C6 Corvette will make 430hp and 424ft/lbs of torque. A new option for the C6 is a exhaust simular to the ZO6 witch allows two different modes. With this option hp ratings are incressed to 436hp and 428ft/lbs of torque. Largest area of gains are in the revised cylinder heads.

The ZO6 returns mostly unchanged to the tune of 505hp.

I wonder what other plans GM has for the LS3.

GM will stop production of the LS2 and the LS3 is replacing it completely in 2009. I would expect this motor to appear in the new camaro, as well as maybe an SUV, and possibly a cadillac or two.

we shall see how everything goes since the new CTS-V is supposedly getting the LS7, and i think the trailblazer is discontinued.

At some point this horsepower war has got to stop. I know, all the car guys reading this want to lynch me but really. What's next, a 700 HP vette with NOX as a dealer installed option?

it is getting slowed down by the governments regulation of 35 mpg avg for a car brand. this is what caused GM to slow the RWD impala and lumina projects.

I seem to recall that some people speculated that was the reason Geo's became Chevy's. Wasn't the vette exempt from Gas Guzzler taxes for many years because of the Geo's?

Pontiac needs a hybrid car to offset it's new power monsters then. Maybe they can sell Pontiac Mopeds as accessories to the fast cars.

:D

What happens if they don't hit the 35 goal? Is it taxes on the consumer or on the brand (which would be passed on anyway probably)? 35 seems an awfully high number. Maybe I'm outdated but 35 is much higher than anything I'm used to. MY GA probably gets 20 something.

I think within 10 years we will see 1000 HP cars, if not in 10 in 15 years.

Good luck with that, maybe if you are spending 1.5 million on a car.

It's a fleet average that they must maintain. So if you have a few gas guzzlers you'll need a few good eccono cars to balance it out. And last I knew, trucks and SUVs on truck chassis were exempt from this.

Ahhh, so that's why Chevrolet sells the ugly as hell Aveo.

John, is this similar to the exup exhaust in the R1s? Just curious...

Its called the G5 ;).

(I can get 40+mpg if I keep it in 5th Gear at lower speeds).

IIRC it's an average of 35mpg highway, but the Z06 with the LS7 gets 28mpg highway. It's not much a burden to the averages.

If you remove its restrictions, its much less. IIRC, the Vette won't let you shift into certain gears in order to save on fuel. Thats one of the ways they dodged the tax.

I'm not able to confirm that though... I don't have enough money :roll2:

its the first to fourth shift that all RWD v8 manual GMs have had in the last 10 years or so. if you drive the car normal it will make you skip 2nd and 3rd gear. my Brother-in-laws CTS-v has that, as well as LS1 camaros, corvettes, and GTOs. the motor has enough torque to be able to shift from 1st to 4th no problem.

Yep, stupid CAGS... But seriously is there anyone that buys any of these cars that doesn't get a CAGS bypass for their car? I mean yeah GM has to put that in for fuel economy ratings but I don't think anyone in their right mind would not bypass it after purchase.

CAGS is just a 1-4 skip shift, as mentioned; it has no effect on highway fuel economy numbers as these are usually obtained at steady speed in top gear.

Nevaaaarrr!!!! LOL.

'08 Viper SRT10 now has 600hp and is edging out the Z06 in a straight line and on a real track, to take back bragging rights. I seriously doubt Chevy is going to rest on their laurels and not make a Vette (whether it be an updated Z06 or the rumoured SS) that will be more inline with the 600hp the Viper is producing now. ;)

The 1st -> 4th is for City, which the government also has some restriction on. I wasn't paying attention to the highway part mentioned.
