View Full Version : main and rod bolt replace
Is it necessary to replace main and rod bolts when rebuilding the 2.4 litre motor? I will be using new head bolts since the machine shop included them. Now reading a shop manual it says to replace the main and rod bolts in one section and not in another. I'm guessing, since the machine shop didn't include them I'm okay, but I'd like to be sure.

I have done many overhauls and never replaced bolts, unless they are damaged. The only time you need to worry about it is if you are going racing, thats when your stressing parts. If its just to drive to work and where ever, it maybe a waste of $.
Just finished with the car. I replaced the rod bolts with ARP bolts. I should note that GM had NO bolts in Canada! ARP had only rod bolts. They only make main studs no bolts. No distributors in Canada ever sold any! So I guess it is safe to say that I'm probably almost the only guy to ever replace rod bolts.
