Is there a fuel pressure regulator on the 96-98 grand ams. Mine is running very lean.
Also, i know this is a generic question but does anyone know why i would be using a lot of gas. It is weird running lean but sucking gas.

How did you determine it is running lean?
O2 sensor trouble will often cause these types of symptoms. That is more common than regulator problems.
Yes there is a regulator. It is the round cylinder with the vac hose sticking out, near where it says "2.4" on the IDI cover.

Well the A/f gauge said so and the check engine code said so

I bet the O2 sensor (the one before the cat) is worn out. Here's what I bet is happening:
1. the worn O2 sensor is inaccurately reporting a lean condition (when it really isn't
2. PCM compensates by dumping more fuel
3. O2 still reports lean, and the cycle repeats until the threshold for code and SES light is reached.
What about exhaust? Any black smoke or carbon deposits on the tip? Gas smell?
What do the spark plugs look like?

I just replaced the O2 last fall. I cant see how that would go out that fast. No black smoke or carbon, new exhaust, no gas smell. Replaced plugs anyway.
That is where I am having problems

Why those questions? Do those indicate a possible worn out O2 sensor too?
