Hey guys. I'm expecting a DHP Power Tuner shortly and would like to change the ignition timing lookup tables to get more performance out of my car. My issue is this:

1. Is there a formula or some other means of determining the optimal (highest performance) advance for the LA1 at a particular RPM?

2. Does anyone know where I can find the actual tables for the stock ignition timing?

3. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how much I could advance the timing, assuming I don't change fuel octane.

I'm also interested in changing the fuel/air mix to make it closer to stoich at all RPMs but I don't want to risk detonation so is there any word on how much I can play with that ratio?

Thanks very much.

My best advice would be get on the dhp forums and read, read, read. You cant just advance the timing and not mess with anything else and expect good results. You need to get everything else tuned first then add timing and repeat. If you dont want to use premium its unlikely you can advance timing much, if at all, without running into engine knock.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to this forum would you? I could never find it.

I don't mind changing fuel but i figure there has to be some factor of safety currently in the timing that can be played with.

What else would i have to change in order to complement a change in the timing?

Im no expert by any means in the tuning department. Read through all of the stickies on the site and you will get a decent idea of what you are doing. www.gmv6pcm.com

Thanks for the link....too bad i can't download any of the documentation but I'll read the posts until i get my unit.

What's this about waiting 3 months for the product???? I thought it was 3-4 weeks max ?! Shit i don't want to wait that long. How long did yours take?

I was told 3-4 weeks and it came in two, with the A/D inputs for free.

Oh, make sure to download the table modifier tool. That is what will make tuning really easy. Most of the rest is understanding why you are changing parameters, what the parameters do, and how they effect other parameters. Something that I do, which has helped me learn the most so far, is go on there every day (after reading the stickies) and just read all of the new posts. Especially ones where people are having problems.
