3) how does it perform in winter / snow
4) what do i need to do in order to disconnect the ram air and install the CAI
so far thats it... thx!
edit: also, how noticeable is the "cool whine" when u hit the throttle?

With the "ram air" I believe you just have to remove the airbox like with any GA, then remove the tube going from the airbox to the ram air shroud. The whine isn't that noticeable in the car unless the window is down or the pedal is to the floor. The CAI should be fine in rain and snow, as many members have them installed year round, but I can't help you too much on this one with personal experience because I have the cold air box.

Power isn't really noticible so really no loss because on a dyno its going to show a gain, small but there.
Hard rain, just make sure you don't go through really deep puddles in the road, meaning avoid lanes by the curbs(where water collects from run off)
Winter/snow,no biggie,no problems, should help with performance since its sucking in really cold air, lol.
Don't know never had to deal with a ram air setup but the post earlier sounds about right.

i am just really scared about water lock or w/e. do u think ill be fine or do those water covers help? someone posted a link to them a while back... id feel better if i had one but i would think it would limit the amount of air being sucked in... or even could i build like a little wall so less rain would get kicked into it?
and also i can already see this, but what if it is raining really hard out and i am in heavy traffic going slow lets say through a town, and i come across a part of the road where it is covered in water and there is no way to go around it? will it kill my engine?

Ive driven in very hard rain, and through a few puddles and im fine. If you drive through that puddle and suck up a lot of water than it can hurt. But the water will have to be really high. My car is lowered and I dont have problems.
As for the whine, a true CAI will whistle under light and heavy acceleration. It is pretty cool, but performance wise not a big difference, but it does make the engine sound a little meaner also.

Not enough to notice much of a loss.

like a champ, make sure to use K&N or S&B filters.

There are *how-to's* both on this site and gagt.com. Its stupid easy to do and you most likely wont need instructions.

ok another quesion - thank you all for the good answers!
but about who to buy from. i would buy from mp racing, but he requires paypal, and im just going to get a prepaid visa card. so i looked at that chromeintakes ebay store and found their prices are like $80 with $20 shipping. just to make sure, is this the right product. i am just no so sure about the source, if i will get the right product and it will fit my car... i have an 02 gt with a 3.4. just to remind you guys. and i also heard not to buy from doctor speed, even though i trust him and mp racing... is there any way to straight up pay with a credit card on mp? when i go to check out it only says paypal, and to get a verified account on that u need to add ur bank and go through all this 4 day processing crap soooooooooooo no, lol. but :::
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-2002-PONTIAC-GRAND-AM-V6-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-3p-K-N_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQihZ013QQitemZ2 30154798585
is that the right thing?
o and i read somewhere on here that u should only go with a 5" filter, to where on ebay its a 6.5" filter. i think im just going to grab a stage 3 from doctor speed.
and what about the stage 2, c/ thats 130, or is it better to get the s3
with the s2 would it give any lag by not getting enough air up there. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i just wanna scream, lol. please anyone, set me up with who to buy from and what to buy. i am using a visa prepaid credit card. not paypal. please and thank you!

Stage 3 is the way to go. Its the true cold air intake and I wouldnt do anything less. I have dr speed and I love it. Just email him and see how long itd be if you ordered one. Ive heard chromeintakes is a good seller and product is good. But id still go dr speed if possible.

I ordered mine from DS and got it in 3 days but that was YEARS ago and alot has changed since then. With all the threads that are popping up about DS i wouldnt even consider ordering from him now. Damn shame, its a nice piece.

I'm not sure I understand the issue as you can use your pre-paid VISA to pay through Paypal.
If you have any questions you would like to ask please do not hesitate to email us at mprstore@mpracing.org or even PM me on this or any other forum you may see me on.

Regarding the CAI cover, I posted the link to the Injen Hydro Shield (http://www.autoanything.com/air-filters/65A2582A0A0.aspx) awhile back. Perhaps that is what you were looking for.
So is the MP racing CAI a "true CAI" like the DS3 is?

Sweet. Anyone have any hard proof that it increase fuel mileage? Not just "my gauge was on half at 150 miles last time and now its at 170 with the CAI" but real #s?
I love the sound of it, but I don't want to lower my gas mileage.

I love the sound of it, but I don't want to lower my gas mileage. The best MPG I got with the stock intake was 27-28 MPG on the highway. With the MPR CAI I have got as high as 32.5 but average right around 30. City MPG has gone from about 18-19 to around 22-24 depending on how hard I drive.
The MP Racing CAI is a serious piece with some series couplers.

it really is a high quality kit tho and the air filter is seriously BAD ASS haha

Paul did you have a hard time getting the coupler over the MAF??? I had to stretch mine out to get it on there. lol
cardude007617
08-02-2007, 02:48 PM
haha ya it wasnt fun......... but i actually made a little cut in the coupler and that helped a little. i mean i tightened that biotch real good so what would it ever matter. but ya, it really is a nice kit. how about that BADD AZZ air filter? haha
bballr4567
08-02-2007, 03:02 PM
Well I already had a K&N and Mark gave me a discount to just buy the CAI. I just took both my hands and streched out the coupler a bit. Its damn awesome how strong they are.

ya they hold super tight. after i snugged everythng up, this thing isnt moving anywhere
Damnit, I just bought a K&N($50) for my factory set up about 2 weeks ago because I didn't want to wait 6 months from DS...But i'd love one of these MP CAI.....We'll see....

Andy Id watch to see if Mark runs one of his specials. Its certainly worth the money and Im sure you can unload the drop in filter rather fast on the boards.

so, back to the CIA itself... how hard is it to remove the ram air? is it even a must to remove?
GtAudioFreak
08-02-2007, 09:42 PM
Its easy and yes, you have to remove it. Its actually kinda fun to just rip stuff out of your car, you should try it. Just dont rip the wrong things. Should take like 5 minutes.
