It's very easy, actually. All you need is the cone filter, a section of 3" exhaust tubing (the outer diameter is the one you want to look by), and a hacksaw.
Cut off about 3-4" of the piping and clamp your intake to one end and the filter to the other.

I didnt even do that^^
I have a cone filter and I just put it right on the maf sensor with a bigass hose that was on my airbox...I used a bungie cord to hold the filter up

That's how my current CAI set-up looks like. And it does improve the car's engine sound.

^hah, yeap. If you're gonna do that you might as well rig up your own CAI..or just buy a CAI.

If you switch from a standard drop-in (aka Fram) air filter to a K&N cone filter, you will get a bit of a performance/economy gain... because you are going to a less restrictive filter. It's not as beneficial as a true CAI though.

just buy a K&N drop in, those are just as good.

actually puting the filter up front like that is beneficial, yes not much but still beneficial colder air is better for performance and it is cooler up there along with the real ram air effect. is it worth it? maybe at the track if you want like 2 more HP but thats about it.
