View Full Version : Front brakes

I recently changed the front calipers, pads and rotors. The old calipers used to stick and pads were worn out. Also when turning low speed, I would hear a metal thump (thinking it was the caliper). Also noticed when I would accelerate hard, I would get wheel hop. And tires wouldn't spin as if the calipers were sticking.

So like I said, I changed the rotors, pads and calipers. The creeking was gone, I was actually able to chirp the tires without wheel hop, sticky calipers gone.
Everything seemed all good and fine until last week. Brakes seem kind spungy, but I have yet to look at the back brakes. Whenever I push the pedal down when I'm in Drive and release just a tad bit, I can hear it make a LOUD grinding noise. And the car either moves a bit or hardly, until I release the pedal more. And this is coming out of the driver side. I haven't had time to take a look at it, am i missing something? maybe i didn't tighten the caliper enough or maybe i need to torque it? The grinding noise sounds like you're pushing a metal box on metal. And now when i accelerate hard, i get wheel hop again.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Time to jack and support the car, remove both front wheels, and make a careful inspection/comparison.

Certainly the new calipers were supposed to be torqued, I dunno the value off hand.
Those are critical bolts, only two of them to hold the assembly on, so they need to be tightened enough they won't loosen, but not so much as to damage the threads or shear the bolt.

As you replaced the calipers, did you replace those bolts if they were bent or worn, or at least polish and lube them?
Even new calipers will quickly hang-up on defective bolts.

Hope this helps,
