Requires lots of machining... gotta match up coolant passages, etc. Needs 2.3 intake and exhaust manifolds, need to deal with EGR removal, etc. It isn't a simple procedure.

*shudders* timing chain removal and coolant passages.
If you know the LD9 engine inside and out, and you have a buddy at a machine shop that can hook you up AND you can deal with your LD9-powered car being down for up to one month, then you should do it.
Although there is a reason the rest of us stop at the secret cam swap.

What is this secret cam swap I have been hearing about?

Using a particular combination of 2.3 cams in a 2.4 engine. If you're building a 2.3, technically you already have them.

Doy of course. Matt what manifold did you use to mount the supercharger? And what head?

his GM supercharger is meant for an LD9 so he had so customize it a bit, new bracketry and pulley setup, also had to take a chunk out of his alternator to get it to fit on the QUAD. (the supercharger unit has the manifold built-in since its a roots-style unit, if I do remember correctly) he is a proud owner of a 2.3L LO - so he has the QUAD4 regular head, not the HO head (of which I forgot the minor differences)

The manifold is integrated into the SC... which is the GM kit for the LD9. The head is the stock 95 "456" casting.

There is no difference in the head between HO and LD2 of the same year. In other words, if you have a 92 LD2 it has the same 086 head as the 92 HO.

well yea but what head did you use? like did you get a machined 086 for your '95 or what?...

No, it's still the original 456 head. I never removed or otherwise modified it.

456 huh, that's the last 3 numbers on the that long line of number on the top of the head correcto? And damn you runnin a 14.9 on a stock engine with a super? That's pretty good. What boost you at? 4, 5, 6? Was there anything terribly wrong with the 3spd or 125 hydramatic or whatever it was called, because Im thinkin that would be my tranny if I can't and most like won't find a GA with a 5spd.

oh there no differences in heads? Then why is it so many people look for 086/087 heads? Is it just 'cool'?

its a higher compression. A lot of the NA guys go with that head. Atleast over on quad4Forums the NA guys seem to go with that head

No there were differences in the castings, except they used the same heads on the HO's for that year, i think. Um Matt will have to back my knowledge since he knows more than I do.

Yup, which is the 94-95 casting. Yes, 14.9 @ 4.5 PSI, and best ET was 15.9 stock NA. I know I could squeak out another .1-.2 tenths right now, but will be upping the boost to 5-6 PSI before next attempt anyway. Sorry, I don't have any experience with the automatics. Keep looking, I've seen some 95's with 5-speeds popping up in the junkyards.

Nope. The 086 has the largest exhaust ports and flows the best, making it the obvious choice when performance is priority.

The HO's 10.0:1 compression was achieved using different pistons. The heads are the same.

Right, all castings with that number stamped on them are the same regardless of which engine they ended up on.

Yea I don't think you can buy a car from a Junkyrad can you, or at least mybe in wisconsin. My friend wouldn't let me buy a '95 Quad GA in his yard. The engine threw a rod. He said something about sending the title to the state.
